My Impreza 2.0R Sport - New job, new pics of car, may be selling :(

Recommended Posts

Well Im new here, just said hi in the new section.

I recently bought this Impreza 2.0 R Sport, 40K FSH, very clean.

Its my 1st impreza, after i fell in love with a company car 2000 W reg turbo 2000 we had at work which i nearly bought.

this was the turbo 2000, cat back exhaust, all colour coded sitting on new-age WRX wheels.

And this is my new one. 2.0 R Sport, Cat back exhaust, Do Luck panel filter, STI Rear spoiler, STI top spoiler, Roof Spikes, Red calipers, 18x8J OZ Ultraleggeras (which cost £1100 new!).

How it looks its basically how i bought it, all ive done to it is give it a full service with a Cosworth panel filter, gonna do Timing belt next week. I have stuck 4 brand new Toyo T1rs on it in 225/40/18s fitted some cheapy mudflaps to the front of it, just for now to protect it going through the lanes to work. planning on getting some rally flaps for it soon. I have also put my private plate on it, and given it a good detailing.

Last night i ordered some new STI interior mats, a nice key fob and a JVC KWR-400 Double DIN Stereo. Im also on the brink of ordering TEIN S tech springs for it. Its in desperate need of lowering and a bonnet scoop! lol

OK, Its not a 400bhp flame spitting animal, but i think its a good start towards impreza ownership. All ive gotta go is get it to look smart and handle well and put up with the lack of power until i can insure a WRX or STi. well i say lack of power but i doesnt go too bad. Its 160Bhp and the fastest NA Impreza you can get.

very nice indeed, i'd love a hawk but the wife went ballistic when i turned up with the classic, i went out one night in my V6 golf and came back in the impreza, she thought i was going to be trading down to a more economical car lol

nice car in a lovely colour, one day i'll have me a blue scoob

Thanks for the comments guys!

ive recently made some nice upgrades to the car. :)

Fitted the JVC Stereo and STi mats about a month ago. which has really tidied up the inside.

About 2 weeks a go the cheapy eBay type exhaust decided to die a death. crappy tailpipe welds had cracked causing the tip to rattle along with the middle section hanger snapping off and rattling. it sounded like a bag of bolts so i done a deal with a lad for a Prodrive PPP backbox which hadnt seen much use and then bought a Miltek unresonated mid pipe to go with it. Which fitted perfectly! Was worried about the 2.75" bore but hasnt seemed to have affected performance at all! thank god! lol it hasnt really made any difference in power but at least ive got a tidy system now.

also ordered performance creations STI flaps yesterday and im about to order some Blue Prodrive springs for it now. 2.0 R suspension is a tad wallowy!! lol

Im driving to London next saturday so gonna try and get the belt done this week and a coolant change to be on the safe side.

spoke to CVC subaru specialist the other day about getting the ecu software update done to stop hesistation at low revs but they are unable to do it as their equipment is out of date now so im gonna have to get in touch with Keith Price in Abergavveny to get it sorted soon.

Thanks guys!

Exhaust sounds basically the same as the old one. just looks tidier! lol

Brand new blue prodrive springs ordered today along with timing belt kit. and ive spoken to keith price subaru about getting the ecu software update sorted and they have said that there is an update for it but its mainly for legacys and not sure whether it will work on the impreza but the said to pop up and see if it works, if it does its a charge of £44.40 inc vat. need to get that booked in soon.

Nice for that price I would think nothing to lose ;)

And shocked about the exhaust not being a little deeper I thought it would give a better tune out with it being a Prodrive. But if you are happy with it that's what counts. And aslong as it has the Burble ;)

Well to be honest the exhaust sounded pretty beefy when the mrs drove it up the street the other day. lol its not bad for non turbo!

Right well cars in bits at the moment, had issues when changing the belt. basically when we removed the bolt for one of the idler pulleys it was really tight and ripped some of the threads out. tried to clean the threads up but it just didnt when tightening the bolt up. so to be on the safe side we had a specialist come in today to drill the hole and fit a helicoil, so now that issues all sorted.

also found the timing was actually out, right hand exhaust cam is out a tooth, maybe two so once its all back the together it should be running lovely. im also glad im getting the job done now as the belt was very slack too.

just gotta time it build it all back together tommorow, hopefully get it all done ready to go to london on saturday. gonna change the coolant too while ive got the pipes and rad off. the pipes need corrosion cleaning off them and the stupid spring clips replaced with jubilees as well as there is evidence of a slight leak.

on a good note flaps turned up today and Prodrive springs. will try and get those fitted up once im back from london.

To be fair I don't realise just how good mine sounded until someone else was driving it while I stood there :D

Well hope you don't run in to anymore problems, and sounds like you choose the right time to change it all :)

Well guys its been a while! so much going on over the last few months! new jobs etc...

Good news is ive still got my impreza, Unfortunately not a lot has been happening with it though.

Last time i posted i was trying to get it back together after a bit of a nightmare during the timing belt change ready to go on a trip to London to bring my mrs stuff home from uni, shes now qualified as a barrister and living back home in cardiff.

Managed to get 40mpg from the impreza on the way up, that soon dropped a lot in the stop start traffic around london, what a nightmare it was! overall we managed 34mpg on the whole trip. not bad really, considering the car was full to the brim with random furniture and books etc lol!

Pic of the engine during the belt change.

IMG_1042_zps98583d3b.jpg

Anyway, after the london trip it was time to fit the brand new Prodrive PPP springs and Rallyflapz STi mudflaps.

The prodrive springs completely transformed the handling, so much less roll and understeer, and yet the ride is still superb! just right for the bumpy welsh roads.

IMG_1041_zps314f8606.jpg

Not long after, i started my new job as a vehicle technician in a main dealership, which covers Nissan, Fiat, Kia and Hyundai, our other branches also cover Abarth, Nissan GTR and Alfa romeo.

Im actually a specialised Kia tech, and soon to be starting my training in their academy in Nottingham in Feb. It was a great move for my career, and im really looking forward to developing my skills, especially now with all the crazy new technologies coming out all the time. main dealership was definately the way forward for me! lol

Anyway so had to get my self a box and some more tools. managed to get myself a decent starter box from costco for £360, ok its not snap on, but still has a few grands worth of snap on tools in it. and im adding to it all the time, partly why i havent done much to the impreza for a while. proffesional tools are so expensive! lol

IMG_1057_zps01cc87fa.jpg

But dont worry the imprezas not getting neglected. Its still getting well maintained and cleaned regularly, one benefit of this new job is the proffesional onsite valeters! so ever month now it gets fully valeted and treated inside and out with Permashine, which is a superb product! It gets the same treatment now as all the new cars, so it looks pretty much like its come out of the showroom!

Heres quite a lot of recent pics, now with it dropped on the prodrive springs 25mm and the flaps fitted.

So thats how it currently stands, only few things ive done it recently is repair the connector to the osf headlamp, as it was shorting causing the headlamp to flicker. While i was doing that i also de-resonated the airbox.

Only downside to this new job is i am now doing double the mileage, and with the car only doing about 24mpg its costing me a fortune, mrs has also got herself a job in a solicitors not far from where i work so she drops me off and parks the car by her works. but she sometimes has trouble parking it, so ideally we need a smaller car which is cheaper to run, so the scooby doo may have to go in the new year, although im having trouble parting with it at the moment.

Last week i also had my insurance renewal through, admiral wanted £1300 a year, no less than last year. i now have 3 years ncb too. so done a bit of shopping about managed to get a quote with autonet for about £850, but by the time you pay monthly it works out about £1000 a year, or £85 a month. which im happy with for now.

So at the moment im currently trying to decide what to do with the car, although if i do keep it, it will deffo get some mods in the new year, bonnet scoop splitter, strut braces, maybe new rims, a UEL manifold decat and remap with be on the cards! until i can afford a wrx.
