Engine swap over

Recommended Posts

Hi mate Welcome to S.O.C

I believe it will fit without problems I don't think the mounts on an STI engine are different as long as you have the loom the gearbox ECU. ect, ect

Will you have problems and hidden surprises and headaches when doing it I would almost put money on it, I don't mean that to put you off just be prepared. And make sure you have enough money and time to cover it.

My mates bug wrx has a blob sti bottom end and the standard 5 speed wrx box, after squeezing 418bhp out of it and smashing 2 gearboxes he's now converting to a 6 speed box, the bug, blob and hawk are all interchangeable with front and rear panels so I would assume they share the same chassis meaning all engines from them models should be interchangeable too

Hi, As you suggest, the easiest option is to use the long motor and swap everything else from the old motor. From memory, the engine mounts will work fine but even these can be swapped easily enough.

The ecu and loom controls the timing and injectors on the engine, in theory you could swap all ancillaries from the old engine to the new and it will work

On a previous conversion I've done (not subie) I fitted a seat engine from a 96 model car into an 89 vw, original engine was a 1.8 16v,new engine was a 2.0 16v,i stripped the 1.8 down to head and block, same with 2.0 and retro fitted all the parts over so all I had changed was the head and block, that worked perfectly as all electrics remained the same

Sorry for the long explanation, just trying to clarify what I did

I think that would be away round it that could work I wouldn't want to say yes it will work that 100%, because I'm sure someone was doing something like this and there was one sensor they missed out or something so kept getting error codes flashing up all over. But this is what i meant about the headaches :)
