What's in the glovebox ?!!

Can anyone stop me guessing ?

I've got a 2008 sti hatchback, and in the top of the glovebox the is some white material covering a sort of opening. I know it's not the cabin filter as that's behind the glovebox, but i can't work out what it may be there for.

Anyone know ?

It's where the manual goes seen a few with the white stuff in. Guess it's to stop the manual rattling
