I don't know if a guide to this has been posted but can anybody tell me an idiots guide to replacing the auxiliary drive belt , does it need any special tools ? 

For the alternator and powersteering belt and A/c belt is pretty easy mate basic sockets is all thats needed :) 

Do you have to release a tensioner or back anything off to get the old one off and the new one on ?

Could only find one for an Impreza but yes you do. shouldn't be to much difference I believe if any but link to the guide below :) 

 

 

12 or 14mm with a small extension,undo the bolt that goes through the tensioner screw on the left of alternator as you look at it should, couple of turns of the big tension screw should see the alternator drop down enough to get belt off, pop new one on and do the reverse of what you did to do up
