I've had mine done. I did post the dyno graphs on here somewhere. I've got a milltek system with sports cat and perrin induction kit. I had it mapped on BP ultimate fuel as there isn't a Shell garage within 40 mile of where I live so my figures suffered a bit as BP fuel just isn't as good as Shell. Power went from 286 to 323bhp and torque went from 275 to 350ftlb.  The biggest difference is the boost comes in a lot earlier and there is a massive gain in midrange torque. Maybe best to get a few thousand  mile on it before you do it if the car is brand new just to make sure it is run in.

Hello I'm a tad confused . I have a 62 plate STI saloon all I've been told is avoid upgrades due to head gasket failure issues. A few guys have suggested that from the onset these engines are truly awful but here you guys are remapping putting on new exhaust and air filters. Did Subaru have these engines sorted by the time they got to the saloon models in 2010 -2014 and onwards models. It's been bugging me so much I'm actually considering selling my car. Please advise .

As I understand it, it was a mapping issue on the early hatches. Should have been well sorted by the time your car was made.

I think it's fair to say the 2.5 isn't as strong as the 2.0, however there seem to be plenty of people getting decent power out of them.

I wouldn't worry about the cries of "chocolate blocks", they're probably just jealous of your car being newer [emoji6]

That's exactly what they called it MikeEcho but there car is newer 2015 saloons in fact. On guy is a engine remapper he suggested cosworth head gasketsets before remapping as a preventative measure. I got the feeling he didn't want any blame in the future.

I read up about all the engine failures at the time with the early hatch backs and the 330s models (basically a better exhaust and remap from prodrive using ecutek software) were more reliable than standard sti's although they weren't immune to it. What I've done is pretty much the same as 330s or 320r, 340r packs, it really is a shame subaru don't offer these anymore. It's down to the owner to take the risk but I really don't think I've made my car less reliable. As for forged pistons, upgraded head studs and new gasket most subaru specialists would sat that's not needed unless you go for a bigger turbo.

The fastest stock bottom end Subaru in the world has a 2.5! It has over 600bhp and was run hard for a couple of years before the owner wanted a forged engine. The tuner who built it says the 2.5 tolerances can be a bit hit and miss out of the factory but when you get a good one they can take good power. Another US tuner claimed it was poor ecutek/open source or un-mapped mods mapping that was killing 2.5 lumps coming into their garage with many having failure on the cylinder nearest the hot turbo/up-pipe/downpipe. Apparently the 2.5 is more prone to boost creep and det due to more gasses so a good mapper is essential. These are all US spec Imprezas though

I wanted to do a simple muffler delete similar to the Nameless from America but done by Custom Chrome in Nuneaton the guy quoted me £250 with any choice of tailpipes and lifetime guarantee. I wanted to put in a Cosworth air panel filter and a remap to match. Would all this cause head gasket issues? Surely the engine's are not that fragile. 323 bhp  like yours is enough for me . I do like your car Confusedbrog have you seen the same model  set the production car record at the TT course on the Isle of Man by Mr Higgins watch it on you tube it's amazing.

Just be wary of any info coming out of the good old US of A. Americans like to tell us how they do things is best and all there parts and software is best yet they can't make a decent car in the first place. I would be looking for advice of uk subaru specialists who map to suit our fuel. Yea I've seen that video and I was lucky enough to be at the TT last year, they have about 6 new sti's  as Marshall cars and they do a flying lap to check the course before racing starts, it's great to see but the new sti's  sound crap on the standard exhaust.

I agree they sound limp. The guy who is doing my spoiler and other things owns a 59 plate and it sounds amazing proper proper sound. I believe a muffler delete will achieve the sound required. I can't do any mods as yet because car has a years warranty on it I think I'll see the warranty out just to be on the safe side. Might be a stupid question but did Subaru re do the mapping properly by the time it got to the 2012 Sti's. As you can tell I'm new to Subaru only my second month of ownership.

At the end of the day if you ask for a decent all round map you should see safe all gains, hp & torque can be extracted plus better mpg you'll not be over stressing anything if it's mapped by a good tuner,

The early cars suffered form leaning off under high boost, was addressed in a recall I think
