Probably a very common topic...but....i'm looking to get my 1996 wrx sti version 3 mapped....i'm in the staffordshire area and was wondering if anyone could recommend anyone......i'm after getting it right first time so don't mind about the costs to a certain degree but obviously in the realms of sensibility.

many thanks

You'll need either a standalone apexi ecu or esl board (www.enduringsolutions.co.uk) grafting into your existing ecu to be able to get it mapped, are you willing to travel or are you looking for someone to come to you ?

As far as i'm aware it's been mapped previously but for some reason either loss of power from the Battery or when the new engine was installed it dropped the map.......now all this is just speculation from the previous owner....who to be completely honest i don't really know how trust worthy the guy is.....as for travel i don't have an issue with that depending obviously on just how far it is lol.

none of those reasons should cause the map to "disappear" from the ECU - In the same way your computer doesn't forget how to start up when you disconnect it from the mains the info is loaded onto a hardwired chip - hence the risk involved moving a remapped ECU onto your own car with different modifications, the changes from standard will still be there

if you have a standard ECU with nothing attached ie Apxei or HKS piggy back type kit it will almost certainly be on a standard map. ESL (as Stants mentioned) will modify your actual ECU and enable real time mapping through the use of appropriate cable and software.

The guy who i had it off is totally clueless will have to have a look under the hood when i get home see whats going on under there and hopefully shed some extra light on the matter.

have a look at alcatek, if your buggering around with piggy backs or apexi (which is donkeys years old now) then while a tad more expensive a much better option.

If its had a new engine then will explain why its running like a bag of spanners, different engine, different map so i expect its never been setup properly.

Sounds like you need to take it to a specialist and get them to have a look at whats what and sort out any faults it has

though they were normaly around £600 for a brand spanker fitted and mapped? seems pretty price for a second hand one

when you add £250  RR time for mapping it your up to £700 anyway. alcatek is only £900 fitted and mapped, for £200 more i'd go alcatek, sack the maf etc etc
