marcothio Posted May 16, 2016 Share Posted May 16, 2016 Hi, Just had the XV serviced and notified the mechanics (Swindon) on my brakes which are starting to squeal when braking at low speed. Their reply: no need to change them, but the manual clearly lists that the high pitch sound is an indicator for worn brakes. Help/advice welcome! Dogconker Posted May 16, 2016 Share Posted May 16, 2016 Yeah, it's quite a thing that dry pads can cause a very high pitch but quite faint squeal. Mine tend to do it when the brakes get hot, but not all the time. Been told it's just they need greasing but it's not so bad I'm paying to have it done until I get the pads changed. the squeal you get from worn pads is really obvious much like a train pulling into a station. that said at over 50k unless you use engine breaking al the time you're probably due for some pads to be fair, me and the wife are pretty light on pads and she's having hers done next week and on down to about 20% both cars at about 50k Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

marcothio Posted August 19, 2016 Author Share Posted August 19, 2016 Just a brief update, the brakes started to make noise again. Took it to the dealer where they were all cleaned up. Quite a lot of corrosion on the rear brakes which was removed probably caused the noise/grinding. Front brakes are up for replacement in about 10-12K according to the mechanic..better start saving.. About £300 for the parts (disc plus pads), £100 for labour and tax. And I thought Audi parts were expensive.... Oh well, better not save on brakes right. I have a sneaking suspicion that one of the rear brakes is binding slightly, i'm thinking of taking it to bits and greasing the pistons & Slider pins. Is there any fancy electronics needed or is it a simple push in jobby? I shouldnt have to wind them back as I dont think i need to replace the pads. But just in case it would be good to know.
