AdamP533 Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Hi there, looking at a 11reg Forester and the dealer has it listed with a new clutch fitted. Its done 39.5k Is this unusual or does it suggest it's been trashed during it life on the roads? Im moving from a XC90 T6 any help
Sandals Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Welcome to the club! I would say a new clutch at 40k is rather low miles. Wouldn't necessarily assume it has been thrashed, previous owner may have just one of those people that ride the clutch on hills or at traffic lights etc... How did the gearbox feel?
AdamP533 Posted August 12, 2016 Author Posted August 12, 2016 Thanks for the quick reply. Im going to go tyre kicking today hopefully.. from what I've read the gearbox on these are a bit throwy 2nd to 3rd.. ??? ive been spoilt with the Volvo with it being a auto... misses has a Mini Countryman manual so at least ive not lost the use on my left foot totally when driving. Any tips on what to look out for on these ? Thanks again... Adam.
Sandals Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Not really sure what they are like in general, but when you take it for a test drive... take your time engaging the gears (especially 2nd and 3rd) and see how they feel. If it feels quite notchy and lumpy, could be a sign it has been abused. If it feels OK and you decide to buy it... maybe get them to change the gearbox oil as part of the deal!
david1972 Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 The early diesels have known problems with the glow plugs...factor in about 4K to sort. For that reason many people stay away from them and stick with the near bullet proof petrol lumps. I'd just advise caution but many people seem to have trouble free ones. Just search the forum here...many threads on the subject Sent from my iphone using Tapatalk
