Owenc2088
Hey all, In the next month or so I am looking to buy a used legacy diesel. Around the 50-70k mile mark. So my question I guess is what do I need to look out for? I know full service history is a must. But what else? I'm looking to buy one to keep for a long time now so need to make sure it's the best for my price range.
New Owner
I recently purchased a Forester, with full service history and it came with a full sevrice. MOT and Warranty. The garage (not sure if I can mention the name) honoured he warranty on some issues I had and fixed them with no issues. On One occasion they sent the car to the maindealer to get it fixed and paid the bill. Amazing service. Will be back to them again for the next car.
stants
Depending on what age the car is , things to look out for on the 1st diesels, dpf problems, sticking glow plugs, and snapped cranks ! Not trying to scare you off but do your homework well on potential purchase, Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
Owenc2088
Thanks, Im looking probably 2008 onwards in model wise so i dont really know what generation that is. insurance is being the biggest issue atm :/
Mr B
Clutch and flywheel issues Dpf/regen cycle issues Self retune issues Injector issues Crank issues Glow plug issues All issues tend be expensive with bills in thousand potentially. Later models are best but it still not an amazing diesel unfortunately . We don't trade early diesels as too much potential for customer dissatisfaction which could ruin our local reputation . Some running issues hard resolve & even Subaru don't have solutions for all unfortunatly . For those not doing massive mileage should stay with petrol/lpg . If buying one buy best can afford and have reserve funds for possible issue. Also test drive several times and some being town and b roads to see if dpf or self retune behaving . Servicing needs be spot on and any doubts in any area walk away .
Gambit
It's fine to mention them here it's always good to have the good and bad feedback I believe as long as it's not causing arguments

Owenc2088
Cheers all. Sorry for the delay as I've been a bit busy as of late. Still looking. Got a bit longer to wait for money to be available so loads of time to keep an eye on the net for proverbial lemons. Im undecided on petrol or diesel tbf. I prefer diesel. Just a personnel choice and I do quiet a lot of miles. Although I'm starting to think about a petrol but think the running cost could bankrupt me haha Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk
Owenc2088
so its been a while since i was last on here as the misses decided she was having her own car. so now that shes buggered off im getting a 2002 impreza 2.0 wrx blob eye. So i know to look for rust in arches inside and out, front cross member, subframe and rear axle, anywhere else that is notoriously bad for it? the next question is what things do i then need to check as well? ive got a friend coming who has owned a couple of subarus. but after working on his latest lemon i would like some more advice also :) any advice would be brilliant
