donnylad
Hi just a general question. Engine and power wise.what is the difference between these? by that I mean I know the wrx is around 220 and the STI around 2 What is the difference? is the block, camshafts. pistons etc the same? I think the STI has a different: turbo TMIC injectors exhaust ECU Other then that are they the same? Can both engines be tuned to the same bhp using supporting mods? Thanks! savage bulldogs
It depends on what year sti or wrx and whether it's a uk or jdm version . Generally the sti has all the above plus better cams ,headgaskets and forged pistons . So for instance a 04 wrx would probably be at its limit at 360 hp . Whereas a 04 jdm sti would be good for 450 hp, have better brakes and a much stronger 6 speed box. If it's not broke .....upgrade it 😊
donnylad
ohh didnt realise internal etc where different thats great thanks! Mine is a 2001 wrx, but If i can achieve 320-350 bhp I would be very happy. I know they can go to 320 but unsure if they can go to 350 on the standard internals clutch and box. Tidgy
It varies greatly from year to year, but a rough list (taken some from above to make it as complete as possible) Different manifold some years have no/single/double avcs Suspension brakes pistons are different as said but new age don't have true forged pistons, they have hypereutectic Interior DCCD/no DCCD Bodywork difference, high level spoiler, roof spoiler on hawks. Wheels PCD is different on some years R180 vs R160 rear set (r180 is a stronger diff and different hubs) Cams ECU is the same but different map Exhaust is the same bar a cat removed on the STI Intercooler Injectors turbo So simply put alot beyond the engine as well
