Bottle under air intake box?

Afternoon all, quick question, what's this bottle for and do I need to keep it on?

my guess is it's to drain water out the intake box but mine was just full of spiders etc.

Was hoping to ditch it and fit mesh over the hole thinking it will improve air intake.

Thanks

Got a similar one on mine - I put it down to a water catch tank, hadn't figured on an air reservoir.

Is your motor struggling at the moment - have you got a high flow panel filter fitted?

2mm hole in the bottom figured was to catch water but could work as a resonator. Also have a small rectangular box halfway up the air intake pipe no idea what that's for perhaps that acts as a air resouvior

struggles at 2-3k but I figure just bad gear choice. Put a piper cross panel in sharper response but still funny at that range

Haven't removed the bottle yet wanted to know what It was first.

gonna pull it off tonight.

The airbox is untouched as the filter WAs just a drop in replacement.

From induction kit pictures they don't seem to use that bottle

The 2-3K is more likely the exhaust - resonance / back pressure waves etc, a back box as suggested would go some to smoothing that but exhaust powervalves were invented because of that flat spot

Sweet I'll take it out tonight, got some mesh to put over the open hole so it'll still drain and let more air in. Wanted the put some over the intake funnel? Scoop? Whatever it's called because the box fills with grass bugs and twigs but gonna be a pain with the shape.    Body repair aluminium mesh only 1.50 at Halfords ATM.

Was hoping to put some behind my grills but tried taking them out last night but couldn't budge it think the whole front end comes off as one. Radiator needs cleaning out aswell.

Yup its an easy job to remove the bumper and then you can get to the back of the grills no issue - replacing with an sti item is an option (badges come off easily enough)

carbon fibre option here :wink1:

I saw the same - most enjoyable - mind you they did replace the standard ford lump with a US turbo V6 beasty, which they then tweaked a little .

The RX hatch has a front end that is more plastic than holes so you should be able to trade off one against the other by substituting a wrx or sti item and maintain enough airflow

Oooo that bottle, was thinking about the box :)

I drive a NA, when I floor the poor thing I get a slight whistle noise that is coming from that little drainage hole, so in my mind I pretend that I had done well in life and make myself believe the whistle is from a turbo (or two) :)

Plenty holes in the front but they are so big a small child would get stuck in the radiator.  And strangely the holes for the airbox are tiny it's only the top 3 that divert up into the air feed which I didn't actually realise at first,   Was thinking about meshing behind the grills if I have time I'll pull out the underside fixings aswell. ill take a look at that Sti piece cheers mate. Like the normal grills just not all the crap they let through, and now the restricted airflow.

Hopefully removing that bottle would let some more air into the box it's like it's not getting enough at low speeds. Curious to how loud it's gonna be now. Stuck an induction kit on my mates 1.4xsara it actually sounded alright

mines NA aswell but I only get a whistle when I drop off the throttle it sounds like a jet engine slowing down

I believe the center insert is the same across the models - The STI bumper is wider to blend with flared arches. Yes the Zunsport option fits over the front of the lower holes but behind the upper holes and inside bonnet scoop

Applying wot under 3k is not recommended especially in higher gears dramatically increases the risks of ring-land failure

might have to consider refitting it then, removed but put a mesh over it so water could still drain away.   think its actually losing pressure aswell, debated running a second intake to the hole but cant find anywhere suitable to run a pipe.

oh hell thanks for the info, i presume 'wot' is throttle?  ill go back to lower gears keeping up the revs, runs better that way anyway and strangely fuel efficiency goes up.
