Im sure now they have to check to see if a cat is present as well as testing the emmissions and not just passing with a decat?

As stants says you need a friendly MOTer. Do you still have the cat to put on for the test?

A friendly tester might shove the probe up another vehicles exhaust for beer vouchers as long as the boss is not around. Well that's what they did with mine when I had all the aggro with my cats. Glad to say it's now sorted.

I think it depends entirely on where you have the MOT done and what your relationship is like with the garage. I've only had my blob since the end of July but I've had it down to my local 'specialist' twice for a full service / going over and some urgent brake work. It's booked in for an MOT next month and we've already had a quick chat about the decat situation. I'm sure a local, non-specialist would see it as an opportunity for extra work but a Subaru specialist is much more likely to be pragmatic and think about the long-term relationship with a customer.
