BennieD1 Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 Finally got my engine out and in bits. Thrown up a few surprises. What was thought to be a small crack in the exhaust housing of my turbo which had zero play is apparently destroyed inside according to turbo Dynamics. But let’s hope it all goes back together eventually. 1
savage bulldogs Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 Where was that bit of oily shrapnel from then, fella ? Are you gonna drop arp's and forged pistons in while its split

With arps and a few other shiny bits 1
Tidgy Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 prob worth getting it closed decked while its a out. Also make sure the bores are properly checked for tollerance, they can oval.
BennieD1 Posted March 7, 2018 Author Posted March 7, 2018 How difficult to closed deck it? yeah they’re all being checked when at the machine shop.
BennieD1 Posted March 7, 2018 Author Posted March 7, 2018 Exhaust side turbo housing of my MDX -555 450 in the market for a new tubby any suggestions

savage bulldogs Posted March 8, 2018 Posted March 8, 2018 A local breakers has a second hand sc46 up for sale for £900 Think alyn charges about £1k to close deck and machine a block ready to assemble [emoji6]
Tidgy Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 Last i hear it was nearer £500 for the CDing only hicup with second had sc46 is you dont know how its been treated or what version it is (been revised several times)
savage bulldogs Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 When i enquired a costing from Alyn, that was for all the machine work needed to just assemble the bottom end ie rebore , hone , face work to the deck and cdb inserts [emoji6]Definitely always a bit of a gamble with any 2nd hand parts but it depends on how deep the op's pockets are .My pockets are fairly deep but I've only got short arms [emoji23] Hence why I've never pushed my budget build with a £2k turbo and only have 360hp from my £150 turbo [emoji4]

BennieD1 Posted March 9, 2018 Author Posted March 9, 2018 He quoted me £450 to close the deck too. I have just seen the SC46 for sale to be fair. But like Tidgy says, it could be nakered and not even a rebuild would save it. Big gamble. Tempting though.
