Hi all

Seasoned british-born Subaru user, all of our cars are from the bullet-proof 1990s:

99 Subaru Forester SF 2.0 - family workhorse.

96 Subaru Vivio KK4 660i s4WD - hilarious.

97 Legacy BD7 2.2i 4WD - daddy’s limo.

 

We started our Scoob life with the 99 Forester as our family became five, and we live in the mountains.

Had it for 5 years, modded with:  some STi bushings, mounts and suspension parts, Pedders struts/springs, Subtle solutions ally lift spacers. Other than that, stock and maintained with mainly oem parts.

The Vivio is the 2nd car- used for commutes and weekend trips, without the kids- selectable 4WD at any speed, the little 660cc EMPi engine kicks in at 4000rpm and doesn’t stop until 9000 on the limiter. Shall be selling the little bugger this year. 

Rebuilt that motor last year using all Subaru parts from Japan (no spares in europe).

 

I picked up the ‘96-97 140000 km (95k miles!) Legacy Sedan a few months ago. Oof! I love it. Cheap, as the seller (2nd hand salesman) just thought it was another generic Jap saloon from the nineties.

As I was viewing it and explaining that it had three diffs, a flat four (and one of the better scoob engines also) etc, his palour changed as he realised he had wildly underpriced this tidy low mileage ‘exotic’ (compared to local spanish prices anyway) and sold it to a real enthusiast who knew his cars! 

I have done nothing to it except changed the fluids and filters, even the plugs and wires are perfect. The four Michelin tires were quite worn ( really even wear, I think they had been treated well and rotated regularly) so I have swapped both the tyres and 15 inch alloys for new Firestone rubber on 14 inch VW steelies.

‘Why that?’ I hear you ask.

- our rough track takes its toll on lower profile rubber and alloys, so it is steelies and higher walls for us. Not much difference on the tarmac though.

I shall also be lifting it; using outback struts on the original springs will give me that little extra clearance for peace of mind.

I am a member of ultimatesubaru.org , but the information provided there is mainly usdm based, and I require more Euro-centred Japanese manufactured Subaru info.

I maintain and repair our cars at home- off grid- engine brakes suspension transmission etc etc
