What part is this ?

Recommended Posts

I ordered the part “camshaft sensor” over the phone and arrived yesterday. On further inspection the box says “crankshaft sensor” I know crank sensor and the cam sensor look very similar but are they the same part of do they just look similar and do very different jobs?
I just don’t want to put the wrong part in??

On classics the camshaft and crankshaft sensors are visually different,  one has a cap over the sensor pickup (looks like sealed unit) the other has a sleeve and a center piece.

Difficult to explain and might not be the same on newage , you could always check if the both cam and crank sensor plugs fit the sensor you have . If so remove the old one and check they look and measure up the same .

That's precisely the visual difference I was trying to explain 😉

Does the new one fit the cam sensor engine loom plug ?

I've never tried to swap cam and crank sensors so have no idea if they do the same job with the same fitment. Just knew they looked visually different.

Can you send the seller a message, asking them why they appear to have sent you the wrong sensor

I tried the plug ins and they were different so the part has been returned. I am due a call back off importcarparts and he’s trying to find me one. My car is an Impreza wrx sti blob 2004, do they have more than one camshaft sensor and if so are they different or the same?
Thanks

Because the lack of sleeve on the crank sensor it felt loose in the camshaft sensor housing, plus the plug ins were different.
