Speedtrip108
Hoping one of you good folk can help. I have a 2006 2.0 automatic Cross Sport import. Immediately following a change of transmission fluid and filter by a specialist mechanic, I've had some issues with delayed gear changing. Speaking with my local garage, they suspect that the fluid may have been incorrect for the vehicle. Unfortunately I don't have the type or spec of ATF used on the receipt so I don't know what actually went into the car except that it was supposed to have been the Subaru recommended type. The only ATF I can find online as recommended is the castrol Subaru 75w80 - is this definitely the correct ATF for my car? Some online forums mention Devron III, but that doesn't seem to be available?
Judd
Just had a look in the handbook for my Auto 2.5 XT, obviously it recommends Subarus own ATF, it also says Dexron 3 can be used temporarily but that odd gearchanges can result. 75/80 sounds like gear oil (for manual box and diffs) to me, all the ATF fluids i've used have been thin, not sure i've ever seen an ATF oil with a w rating as such. When i changed my gearbox fluid i used Dexron 6, which is synthetic and from everything i read about this subject is compatible with and can replace the older spec, the gearbox is silky smooth with instant non slurred changes, i also changed the spin on filter (yours may not have one), not a cheap filter it looks like a standard engine oil filter but works nothing like one, circa £25, but something you'll probably only do once in the life of the vehicle. Dr. Acula
What Judd said. 2007 Cross Sport JDM with 4EAT transmission, transmission oil "refreshed " as through regular procedure you can only drain about 4 ltr. My concern would be that if contaminated with 75w80 (100% sure it's diff oil) a full drain would be necessary. I did it myself with this:
