Umm without hearing it I would say bottom end is going

" piston slap " if you look on YouTube you will see done videos

It's loud when car is cold when warmed up nothing I'll get some audio when I finish work

They are known for going but if it's on cold only just keep oil topped up and a eye on it

My old classic is a bit tappy / knocky on cold but that's abused more than a jimmy Saville victim

Matts right, mine sounds like a bag of spanners when it's cold with its piston slap. I think if it was something terminal like bottom end,it would be a constant noise, that would give you that sinking feeling that its about to die and empty your bank account

Yeah piston slap by the sounds of it mine also does it a little bit when cold in the morning this time of year. but in the summer it's hardly noticeable

Get some audio up later mate, ideally one when its cold and one when its upto temperature if that's ok. I've got a kitchen to fit, speak later dudes

What's best way to get recording or best app to do it with I'm struggerling

Does sound like piston slap as my old engine had it (ran fine for 5k mls until I replaced it) and normally big end noise wouldn't go away once warmed and would increase in volume with the revs .

if it is a "sticky lifter" tappets a oil flush and a quality oil might resolve it , what grade /brand of oil was used during the service ?

Thats a relief I know it wasn't a cheap repair really but could have been a hole lot worse and it's been done now Back to worry free motoring :D
