Exup1000 Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Definatly knocking and not tapping? Is it high or low pitch? 1
Exup1000 Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Break what? For lunch ha. Yeah,is the noise constant weather it's under load or not.if you could upload an audio it may help
Gambit Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Brake* jeez can a man get no slack after a few drinks :D Think I need a break from you lot ;)
quit Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Umm without hearing it I would say bottom end is going " piston slap " if you look on YouTube you will see done videos
Stu Posted January 13, 2014 Author Posted January 13, 2014 It's loud when car is cold when warmed up nothing I'll get some audio when I finish work
quit Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 They are known for going but if it's on cold only just keep oil topped up and a eye on it My old classic is a bit tappy / knocky on cold but that's abused more than a jimmy Saville victim
Exup1000 Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Matts right, mine sounds like a bag of spanners when it's cold with its piston slap. I think if it was something terminal like bottom end,it would be a constant noise, that would give you that sinking feeling that its about to die and empty your bank account
Gambit Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Yeah piston slap by the sounds of it mine also does it a little bit when cold in the morning this time of year. but in the summer it's hardly noticeable
Exup1000 Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Get some audio up later mate, ideally one when its cold and one when its upto temperature if that's ok. I've got a kitchen to fit, speak later dudes
Stu Posted January 13, 2014 Author Posted January 13, 2014 What's best way to get recording or best app to do it with I'm struggerling
savage bulldogs Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Does sound like piston slap as my old engine had it (ran fine for 5k mls until I replaced it) and normally big end noise wouldn't go away once warmed and would increase in volume with the revs . if it is a "sticky lifter" tappets a oil flush and a quality oil might resolve it , what grade /brand of oil was used during the service ? 2
Stu Posted January 21, 2014 Author Posted January 21, 2014 Good news it was gambelt tensioner that was knock £256 for repair and sounds like a kitten
Gambit Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Thats a relief I know it wasn't a cheap repair really but could have been a hole lot worse and it's been done now Back to worry free motoring :D
