Funny sound behind instrument cluster

Featured Replies

While driving I noted a funny sound coming from behind the instument cluster. it's hard to describe what the sound is but it's like you move your hands trough a staple of dry leaves.

What can this be?

Safe to say I'm not sure mate sorry :( I'd be tempted to remove the fascia/surround pull it out give it a little Fonzie blow, and put it back see what happens might be a lose connection.

If you remove the access pannel below the steering column you should be able to see up and round behind the centre console. And up behind the clocks.

The piping for the blowers runs across the top of firewall maybe has leaves in ?

That is very well possible as she was from a farmer from new... And the amount of dust etc I have removed from the lugage compartment is inmens ;)

sounds like leaf or leaves trapped either in the fan or in the trunking, does it change pitch when you turn the fan up or down / disappear when fan turned off?

That looks horrendous i have an issue with people who don't keep the interior of the car clean !

Anyway. Do you have the grilled scuttle area inbetween the bonnet and windscreen ?

Mines full of dry leaves and i've not worked out how to remove them without taking half the front off. Might not be the cause of the noise or could be making their way in somehow ?

Wow yeah thats shocking  I'd Have a look at the pollen filter I bet most of it has come through that if it even has one in :D

have noticed that the noise is there when with lots of wind and only with speeds higer then about 50 miles, probably some leaves.

Looking at the rest of the car I'd say maybe a full tree, might even be able to pick apples from it if you're lucky ;)

yep, yep, this forester is being used as a real 4x4 mud monster

Its probably some woodland creature wondering what the hell happened, one minute foraging in a field next vacuumed up by some huge induction system  :D
