Hi all I'm looking in to getting a subaru currently. A few questions I need to ask. Firstly is it safe to drive a car where the bottom end has just started knocking as I am currently looking at a project one. Secondly I'm looking at another one and it says in the advert that there's a knock but its a sensor or crank? He reckons it is safe to drive is it?

it depends how much damage you are happy doing before you start you project - it cost me £35 to hire a car trailer for the day to get a bust car back home, cheaper than potentially trashing the whole engine

Yeah just looking at a couple the one with bottom end knock is going to be a no no as there's more problems than listed. The other one I am looking at the bloke reckons its still in daily use and there's a noise but its a sensor or crank??

I would be wary of what he is saying, knocking of any type is bad and is probably causing unseen damage. I would personally stay away from that unless you know exactly what it is. But if you are willing to take the risk it is your choice. There are plenty of cheap cars around with well looked after engines.
