New Member. UK STI Prodrive (dump valve/exhaust)

hi guys iv just bought my childhood car of choice finally at the age of 27. 03 wrx - sti type uk with full prodrive performance package and prodrive wheel package.

 

car looks completely standard no air filter fitted no dump valve completely left alone.

 

i have a couple of question to ask if u could help me please. i would like a dump valve putting on which one would u all sergest? i always wanted the flutter sound if thats a possability iv only ever heard this a few times.

 

also its abit too quiet for my liking how would u sergest makin it louder? would u say a center decat? and lostly i understand its got the prodrive package but im not a fan of the prodrive back box i think its ugly im a big fan of the jap look back box. any help would be much appreciated and i no i might sound clueless but to be honest with these cars am pretty much am.

Wotcha and welcome awesome car, I would suggest a HKS dump valve as you can have a few different options for sound produced (watch out for copies though)

lovely looking car you have. With the HKS DV just look out for fakes lot's about on eBay. Feel free to have a look around the forums and join in on the threads plenty going on here not just car talk and great bunch too all very friendly :)

can i just make sure im not losing performance if i buy any of these exhausts or will i gain at all? as im getting told not to change the prodrive system thats on it. but its too quiet for me and i also like the slash cut jap lookin tail pipes??

so wrt the dump valves you tube is your friend as people have clips of the sound they make

 

eg

 

 

you should not lose performance dependant on the pipe you replace it with - so if you went for a standard impreza pipe that would be more restrictive than the prodrive option but by removing the cat and fitting an equal bore pipe you should gain as the restriction from the cat is no longer there and if you go for something like the afterburner extreme that has no back box either so there is no restriction at all to gas flow

A cat back pipe of equal bore size should give you at least the same performance as you have now

not necessarily - you can replace the cat with a sports cat which will improve performance over standard - the prodrive pack exhaust part will just be the back box. for sound only go for cat back with the exhaust you are looking at in the link there will be less sound deadening than the prodrive. As you have the turbo anything after it in the exhaust is all about emissions and noise level (NA cars are more sensitive to bore, length and bends in the pipe).

Are dump valves good for cars or do they reduce power, the one that come with the car I bought sounds like a cat purring? Lol

They don't really do anything to power of the car the idea is to increase the life of the turbo, by not pushing the air back and venting it. But you will always get mixed reviews on them.
