Highspirits
Been doing a lot of looking at reviews of the WRX STI and it seems they vary from US/JDM/UK in power output, in the UK they are listed as 296bhp and in the US/JDM they are 305bhp or 300bhp. Is it just how they convert their BHP from 300PS in each country or is there actually a different ECU map or fuel RON level which affects how much power it develops. Did a search on the forum but couldn't see anything out about the power from the EJ257 and thought someone here probably knows.
stants
Hi somone with more knowlege will add to this but heres the info I know. Jdm spec vehicles always have more power as standard used to be the case of different turbos/ internals fo a start plus they run on higher octane as standard. They used to use ps instead of bhp for figures not sure if they still do. Us market will be dictated by emissions regs and boring stuff, the us didn't get the impreza untill 01/02 plus they run rubbish grade fuel 91/92ron being standard. And the rest of us jut get a slightly lower spec to the jap market :-( with a generic map to run safe on 95 octane So yes the differnet markets have different maps with regards to fuel but it's not specific to gaining most for the car just more to meet the various emissions and fuel grades. Hence why most people opt for a remap on vpower or simillar to release more horses And those in the states have to get a map to run safe on lower grade fuel
Scooby Pete
Also the JDM cars run the 2ltr engine where as US/UK ect are the 2.5ltr engine. The Jap cars run more power from the smaller engine as thats what their market wants. if you are serious I would look at getting an JDM spec car from Litchfield or another JDM suppiler.
Highspirits
I'm looking at the 2015 model as mines on it's way for October delivery, where the WRX is the 2ltr (268bhp) this isn't coming to the UK but the WRX STI is the 2.5ltr everywhere I believe and this is the model coming to the UK. Was just wondering on the difference as the car spec engine spec is the same in both locations just a difference in 9bhp is actually listed. There is such mixed information still as so many UK reviews incorrectly say 305BHP, but I think most of these are just taking review information from elsewhere rather than looking at the actual Subaru literature (which is really very limited).
