next month is MOT time so want to make sure all is fine and prepped.  :)

now my off side front Fog light isn't working and actually i don't care since i'm not using it. the whole lens / unit is rotten and probably leaking water hence the bulb is gone.

question; is this a MOT failure?

thx

If it's a light on the car and it doesn't work it fails unfortunately. mine past with a license plate bulb out just because he knew I could change it and he said he's not that petty :)

thx Mr. B

@Gambit; yep, yep, our trusty 2001 Rav4 did fail once on a rear licence plate bulb being out what i changed and she passed the retest with flying colours

One thing I can't fault my MOT tester for they seem to use common sense which I like it was the rear licence plate bulb on mine didn't even give me a warning past it and said it's blown that was it :D

And I was under the impression if you have a light on the car with a bulb out it was a fail under the new rules regardless of location

Yep front fogs are not part of MOT test in terms of them working & not listed in lighting section of old or new MOT manual.

If lens was broken, hanging out etc it could fail but easily fixed for MOT by removing lens or taping over them.

What you do need remember is it is a motoring offence should you be using your fogs with only one working & Mr BIB sees you :-S

Cheers mate didn't know that. And I always try to keep my bulbs working for the main reason as I don't like to give them the excuse ;)

Same here, do same for customers too unless they dead set against fixing it.

Fixed penalty is a PITA :-@

it's all good as it's just a mess inside the lens, the lens reflextor (silver paper? ) is gone and no parts are hanging out

You would be ok to blank the front fog though as I understand, as there is no legal requirement for a front fog light. I had a Landrover with spots and a blown bulb, because I put covers on then it didn't fail the MOT as they were not useable.

for the records; the MOT tester did switch the front fog lights on and off as i was in the watch area to check him out.

the brake test was done on the road and not on the rolling ramp  :)
