Project light restore/tidy up of a UK classic turbo
Well it’s been a while and COVID got in the way of finances a bit but car is almost complete now and I’m infinitely poorer. Car was MOT’d a couple of weeks ago (only advisory was loose battery so located a NOS battery clamp) however car wasn’t settled on idle and a bit too rough on boost - caused by the change in compression with the new JDM short block and not being adjusted by using the right sized head gasket (now has a RCM .78mm gasket) which has annoyed me a little given I wanted to keep it original. Anyway I was left with two choices do the engine again or a remap - link g4 was suggested but I’ve opted for a ESL daughter board just given it retains Subaru fault codes and safety bits. Plus it comes in cheaper so win win for me but I know a lot really rate the g4. I’ve reconciled my want to keep this stock by suggesting we aim for the PPP WR numbers of 240bhp and 260lb ft a bit lower in the rev range (3500 versus 214lb ft at 4000 on the UK turbo) which I suspect is what the Japanese WRX had anyway before the regs detuned them here so don’t expect that to put any stress on the stock parts by having to much torque available or a lot of torque available too low so it was always stressing the car. Car can happily make more for sure. Once the ESL fit and tune is done and I have it back here I’ll get some more pics up.

Bike rack for gc8 saloon
Roof rack bike carrier was part number E3610FE580. You can still find these online. The roof rack (load carrier) where no roof bars was part E3610FE520 for saloon and E3620FE539 for wagon For those with roof bars it’s E3610AE110 (if no sunroof) or E3610FE540 for the high type (where Sun roof is fitted). The roof rail kit for the wagon was E3610FA000 and the necessary torx bit for fitting was SACC3155. There was also a sail board carrier E3610FE590. And a ski carrier for 4 pairs E3610AE570 and for 3 pairs E3610FE570 Was also a tow bar bike carrier accessory was part number SACC1407, accessories brochure says it’s not suitable for detachable type tow bar and advisable to use a towing board with this product. Non-detachable tow bar kit was SACC1193 which came with wiring kit.

@Gambit they sent me this back mate Has your club attended the show in the past? If so, all club admins have been sent their 2021 access code via email recently. If you haven't received that, or it is a new club, we can certainly set that up for you. Please could you reply to this email with the following information: - Club Name - Club Admin Name - Club Admin Email - Club Admin Phone No

Ok mate, I’ll request an access code for the club and then put it on here once I get it.

Japfest 2021
Actually just checked the website it’s pretty straight forward. We get a club access code and people can book and pay for club tickets directly using that code, so no risk of non payers etc. Deadline is 16th August and we must have minimum 5 cars otherwise they will bump us to the general display area. Prices are £25 entry ticket per person £12 per person for Friday and Saturday night camping (£10 for the kids over 5, free under) - I won’t be camping I doubt £35 for 20 minutes of track time and another £10 for passengers I’ll be happy to sort out getting any stuff to the show like banners etc, I’m close enough to @savage bulldogsthat I can collect etc just before hand @Gambit do you want to get a club code (or I am happy to) link is https://www.fastcar.co.uk/japfest-silverstone/js-club-tickets/ and there is a link in the Club Admin section to create a new support ticket. Then suggest we just post the code here and people put their names down when paid.

I’m happy to help try and organise this but would just need some guidance as to what to do as never done before. I don’t have Facebook. if we have enough definite interest in doing this I’ll happily pay up front for tickets. If 5 is the minimum I can cover that to start with so we have our stand and we can go from there.

impreza 1998 wagon non-turbo
I bet mate. My first car was a mk2 triumph vitesse, tin top. 2litre 6 straight, twin carb and it had negative camber that would kick the back end out at the slightest provocation, like turning into a junction!! Haha

Looking forward to hopefully seeing this in the flesh soon

Yes mate will be fully sorted and sealed Had the dent man out today to remove the numerous little parking dings that 22 years of trolleys and careless folk cause!

Starting to put it back together now. Shouldn’t be too long now until it’s back on the road. My eBay suspension purchase worked out well. Might even try and get it to an event/show this year if anyone here goes?

Thanks Savage I’ll take a look. Roads out my way aren’t too bad for pot holes. Have a nice twisty B road as well a couple of miles away, it’s not snakes pass like but still it’s a bit of fun. I’ll watch your progress WK, good luck with it. I’ve outsourced mine and so far the refresh/restore costs have nigh on doubled with the engine rebuild but it won’t need touching again - do it once, do it right - but still this car will owe me £15-18k (which would have brought a far more desirable model) ah well it was always about preserving something rather than making money at least in the short term ... 10+ years from now it might prove to be a cracking investment!! Or not!! Haha

Project light restore/tidy up of a UK classic turbo
Thanks mate. Managed to bag genuine classic shocks with about 200 miles on them off eBay. Just need some standard ride height springs, I think KYB do/did them not sure who else. Really want to try avoid going lower but the elbaich ones do sound decent and tempting. I’m only just north of you on the southern Norfolk/suffolk border so you know what the roads are like 😉

Does anyone know where I can get (or have) OEM or OEM quality suspension for my car please? I’m after standard ride height 🙂 but apparently it’s not easy to find at the minute. Mine is shot and needs replacing

More pictures. Underbody had been cleaned and dried and the chassis and suspension components are back from shot blasting along with the zinc coated bolts 🙂

Project light restore/tidy up of a UK classic turbo
Things progressing along. Sub frames are off being blasted and painted gloss black. Head is skimmed, new valve guides and been reseated. Lot of carbon build up so needed to be acid bathed and soda blasted A few more pics. New engine. And some lower trailing arms that were a bit beyond their best
