@Jay762 I will have to have a look into the reliability issue, I thought that was just for the sti models?

Other than potentially a more reliable engine and cheaper running costs, does the blob have any major advantages ie better chassis etc over the hawk?

The car will be used mainly on a weekend, and I am tempted to change some parts to sti items just for the extra power and a more fun driving car.

I will be looking into more in depth stuff when I get a chance but I'm leaning more towards a hawkeye for a wagon, just on looks.

What are the uk270's are they worth the slight bit extra for one?

----- 2.5l engine suffering ringland failure, not necessarily just sti - through many reasons the wrx can fail also.

wrx chassis are the same - STI for both differs vs WRX - larger bearings alloy wheel hubs, bigger brakes, the Hawk has a wide track option.

If you dont want to go too extreme many wrx owners are happy with slight performance upgrades, filter exhaust map and thicker ARB's

  3. Wotcha and welcome - The earlier wagon (I think 2005 latest) has a lower tax bracket and the 2.0 engine is considered more reliable but that is open to huge debate. pound for pound a 2.0 blob will be cheaper initially and if you really want it is very easy to put a hawk front end on if you prefer the looks - or consider a legacy (2003 - 2006 is my favourite front end)

  4. Spigots - noticed the wheels were rattling on the studs - further investigation revealed whilst there were spigots in place they are not for the Subaru hub

Now sorted all fits properly with no movement - at £4.00 a small ivestment to ensure no vibration of wheels and additional strain on wheel nuts

Orange are the incorrect ones that came on the car, the grey the correct fitting repalcements

personally i wouldn't want to loose the vent, but i like my creature comforts hahaha

That was a point of much debate believe me but after trying many locations around the driver area - as well as behind the first vent it was originally installed in, this was where it finally ended up.

Part of the problem was whilst from the driver position it could be mounted and look fine but from the passenger side and through the windscreen it looked pants.

Better work that you found it as would been worNice bit of work there mate.  Anyone got a couple of hours to spare to swap my exhaust system over.

Obviously pay for your time or that.

Itll just be the Decat pipe that'll take the time because I'm sure will need to disconnect bit of the steering assembly too this.

I'd like to do more things myself rather than pay a garage to do it for me. I'd like to learn a bit more more about it all too. Disabled and certainly need to use the time I have my legs rather than wasting away doing nothing

If I was closer I would be there to help but it is a fair old round trip for me to get to you unfortunately

  7. Relocated the Toucan unit from where it had been glued into the centre console but the glue gave way as there was no support across the rear to the right vent housing with an alloy bracket to ensure it can take being pressed without breaking free

In the future I will fill the hole and paint where the vent wheel went

  8. So today I found another bodge on the STI that I need to repair. Wanting to track the vehicle I ordered some tow hoops just in case I need to be extracted from the kitty litter but could not understand why they would not screw into the tow holes.

It turns out some f@@* Tard in the past has screwed in a tow hook with the wrong thread completely messing them up. The tow hook came with the car - the photo shows the one that came with the car, black, coarse thread and bent with a genuine grey subaru item next to it from the RX with a finer thread pitch   🤬

  9. normally for an transmission oil change you disconnect the output pipe going from the cooler modine back to the transmission box and have a longer piece of pipe going to a bucket.

You then run the engine pumping the oil out as you pour new oil through a thin funnel into the transmission fill point watching for the oil to run clear then you stop the engine replace the pipe and top up the transmission to the right level.

However as you have water involved as well I would drop the sump and let it dry out as well as draining the oil - some of the water wont have mixed with the oil, I do not know if your model also has a filter (some do some dont) but I would change that as well
