  1. Sounds like a plan, cheers :-)
  2. I'll do that, sounds cheap enough for a rough price, is it something that only certain mappers do or would it be considered a basic job that any of them could do?
  3. Can mappers do a general engine health check? Recently bought a 2001 forester turbo and I'm not convinced it's running quite perfectly, had my works code reader on it and it mentioned can sensor, fit one and it doesn't seem any different, would like to get a 'health report' to see what's going on
  4. what would people recommend using to undersea my 14 year old forester? its not exactly pretty under there but id like to at least try and make it last a bit longer, used waste oil on my 20 year old l200 and its alright but have to keep on top of it, any recommendations?
  5. crap picture but the only one i have at the moment, and the other one is the odd plug i found behind the stereo, hope I've uploaded the pics right, new to actually posting on forums instead of just reading
  6. yer i noticed there isn't that many about, I'm happy with mine, needs tlc but ill get it sorted, anyone got any hints/tips/tricks that i should know?
  7. aye, looks like your right, will have to wait a good few months (hopefully) to test it out, cheers :-)
  8. Ahhh that makes sense, will check tomoz when it's light
  9. Needs tlc but it's clean inside and everything works, I was fitting my stereo and found a red connector not connected to anything, looks a bit like an iso connector for the radio, any ideas? Also what's the button for that looks like a heated front windscreen button? (it's not the rear one lol)
  10. Well this morning I popped over to Edinburgh and bought myself one, will add a picture when I can figure out how to, 150 odd mile trip back and it was perfect, couldn't have asked for more to be honest :-)
  11. There's a turbo on eBay at the moment, bidding but says would take 800 for it, only problem is it's 4 hours away and clutch starting to slip, if it was an hour away I'd go for it, it's a long trek for a risk, still, bound to be one pop up eventually, :-) gonna go have another look on the trader now haha
  12. Aye I'm sure something will, gotta say it's a very helpful place on here :-)
  13. I'm in Cumbria, near Penrith, my budget is only about 1k which is tight, but I've seen a few on eBay within that price, there just many miles away and I'm a bit weary Incase it's a dog, mechanical issues aren't really a problem to me it's just deep engine work or bodywork/rot I'm trying to avoid, I know that n/a would be enough power as it is but I get bored easily and would like to have to have the ability to tinker and improve it, guess I'm just getting impatient haha, I've put feelers out to the car dealers around here though so you never know :-)
  14. Still unable to find a turbo, I'm going to have a look at a non turbo this weekend and was wondering if there's much you can do with them tuning wise Incase I choose to do so, I know the turbos can be set up for ridiculous power if enough money thrown at it, but is the non turbo completely limited in this sense, ie can they still be remapped etc?
  15. Cheers Iain, I've seen a few farmers with them and though the same about them not parting with money easily, not seen any turbo models round here but I'm still on the lookout for one, been told I need to sell at least one of my other vehicles before I'm allowed one haha
  16. Good point Mr B, never thought about Road tax, I'm guessing they'll be in the group of around 230 a year?
  17. That's what I like to hear, hoping well get some nice snow come winter to go playing in
  18. i was thinking about gettting the older 2.0 turbo, mainly because i prefer the looks of it inside and out, and I'm a mechanic by trade so hopefully should be able to sort any issues out myself :-) I've never worked on one in the 8 years I've been working which i take as a good sign, to be honest my minds fairly made up about getting one just hoping i haven't overlooked anything that'll make it a bad decision, i shall be straight on here to let you all know if i ever manage to get one lol
  19. everytime i come on this website i want one more, I'm on the look out but a decent example of the mk1 (sf?) is hard to find anywhere near me, its really frustrating haha, in your honest opinion is there anything there not good at?
  20. as title really :-P anyone use there forester as a family car? what are they like day to day?
  21. well I've had a look around and now I'm even more torn, the temptaition for turbo is strong, its going to be a family/dog car but also its got to deal with the lovely (when not pot holed) roads round cumbria when driving alone, the only way ill be able to decide is to try and drive both models :-) is there any difference between the mk1 and mk2? prefer the look of the mk1 in and out but theres more choice when it comes to the mk2, any difference in reliability or handling/performance? cheers guys :-)
  22. Cheers for the input, gonna have a look around and see what's what :-)
  23. also, turbo or non turbo? whats the performance like on the standard 2.0?
  24. evening all, Im after some advise on getting a forester, looking at getting a cheap workhorse for no more than about a grand, obviously not going to get a minter for that but it only needs to last as long as it does, fairly handy with a spanner so maintenance isn't a worry, i was mainly after advise on their fuel economy, how fun they are to drive (i enjoy driving so this is important) and how the do when it comes to rot as i know japanese vehicles tend to hate our british winters, sorry for the questions early on but you know what its like when you get an idea in your head :-) many thanks, Ben
