Hi everybody.

New to the forum, joined mainly because the clutch on my beloved 2004 Outback has just given up the ghost and I need advice!

I've had the car for about 9 years now and it has been superb - giving an average of 38 mpg (although to be fair this is mainly due to by 50 mile round commute only lets me get up to max 60mph through the country on B roads).

What should I do?  It's done 162,000 miles - relatively high, but nowhere near the end of its life by any means. Everything else on it is pretty good - tyres, exhaust cam belt but my Subaru dealer wants about £950 to replace the clutch and the car is only worth about £2500 !

Any thoughts very welcome.

Thanks G1G

wotcha and welcome - sounds like you have a great motor there so what would you have to pay out in order to buy something as good - there may be other places you could take it to not too far from you - I believe Scooby Pete uses a place Camberley way which may be a cheaper option

Hi mate welcome to S.O.C

And amazing car nice to see one as tidy as that for it's age

I've not tried these place and not sure on distance away from yourself but have been mentioned before with positive feedback.

My classic impreza has the past 7 years service history from subarus4you. I can't give you first hand experience but the older gentlemen that owned my car spoke very highly of them. Prices seem to be quite competitive.

I've spoke with them before about them coming on the club to offer advice seemed polite enough but never gave me any real answers :D but have been recommended before :)

Here is price breakdown. Flyweel skim. £80, exedy clutch £180,+ 6 hours @ 60 = £620. That is a minimum price to look for obviously will be more if you add the dreaded vat and any other bits. As long as rest of car is sound I would pay it. Even if you sell it and get another one there is no guarantee you wont have to shell out a lot more.

I paid about 320 I think from Sheffield subaru services and a 251 mile round trip. I'd still ring around and ask. Everyone local to me wanted from 550 to 800. And to be fair once I'd met Martin I won't trust anyone else now :D top bloke.
