Hi just bought my very first impreza wrx

Recommended Posts

So today I went and did it! [emoji2] I have bought my first subaru impreza wrx 2006 model, it's been well looked after from previous owner but he didn't say much as to how to maintain it well, any tips guys? Like should I fill the oil often? What fuel too use and any other maintenance tips? Thanks

Wotcha and welcome - Check the oil level monthly, dipstick is easy enough to get to. Use Shell Vpower or Tesco 99 ron. If it has not been done I would have a x4 wheel alignment check / setup, save you scrubbing tyres unnecessarily

Yes you'll be fine to bung some vpower straight in, may be worth doing an ecu reset aftwr you've filled up as it will re learn for higher octane, as for oil depends if the car has many mods, check Opie Oils for recommendations. Most of us use millers oils

Can't go wrong with Miller Oils, highly recommended by my previous Honda specialist TDI North (did lots of race prep, race car builds, highly respected) and I also used for my previous Scoobys. Similar with Opie, they know their stuff, and have some good discounts on often,

Don't think Halfords will do Millers products, I've either buy direct (I live close to Miller Oils) or in recent years from Opie. They do sell it via distributors and shops, I've seen it stocked a lot at independents around Huddersfield where I live. As for checking seals then I'll leave that to more qualified people. When ever I've bought a second hand car I've changed the fluids and started from a known point. After that I've monitored oils levels and usage after that to judge if there is any leaks. Sure some of our resident experts will drop in.

Ok so I found some millers oil cheers lads, my subaru is due a service and I just got quoted from a subaru garage £250-£270 for a service is it even worth it? Other garages are saying roughly £100, what's everyone do? Subaru or trusted local garage?

Yeah, check when plugs were last done as they aren't yearly service items by all accounts, oem filter 9 quid 5l oil 50 quid max, not sure about box oil but can't be more than 30 quid, air filter 12.

So I reckon the rest is a couple hours labour which is a **** take as will probably only take 90 mins max Inc brew

yep, that's fine. mine sits at 1,650rpm on start up. it's the automatic choke to help the engine warm up on a cold start, the rev's go down as the engine warms up

years ago there was a thing called a 'manual choke' it was a stick that you pulled out when you started the car (so I have been told, I'm too young to remember that though :D )
