May 26, 201510 yr Hi there, so I'm the owner of a 2001 wrx as of last week. Wanted one for a while but family and work have got in the way. So just a newbie question really where do I start with engine mods. The car seems ok just a little judder/misfire/ hesitation at about 3500rpm. Car is standard apart from a Bailey dump valve Samco hoses and a new walbro 255 fuel pump. So I guess I'm just trying to eliminate the hesitation before upgrading anything. Any ideas? I leave it with you. Thanks for allowing me to join your group. I hope to learn all I can about my new car.

May 26, 201510 yr Welcome. I expect its the dump valve casuing it. can you take it off and see if its improived without it? Has the car been mapped at all?
May 26, 201510 yr Author No other mods. I'm unable to read codes until my cable comes tomorrow. Can't take d/valve off as I don't have to old valve. Thanks guys will no more tomorrow when I can connect car to laptop.

May 27, 201510 yr Make sure it's silicate, phosphate &aminate free, 90% of coolants are these days but etheleyne glycol stuff contains silicates which eat the water pump impellor , vest bet is getting a longlife O.A.T coolant, most motor factors sell it and Just do a 50/50 mix.
May 27, 201510 yr Author Right guys got my laptop cable today. Checked for faults no recent faults found but did have a cam shaft sensor message saved. Is this an issue and what do I need to check. Thanks again for helping me out.
May 27, 201510 yr The coolent wouldn't make it run rough. If it's been serviced then I would check the HT leads and listen if there is any loud ticking from the injectors ? If the crank sensor fault is not there now it should be ok ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

June 1, 201510 yr Might be a MAF problem, could be worth just giving it a clean. It's amazing what problems a dirty MAF can bring.
June 1, 201510 yr Don't think so, I watched my brother in law do it (he's a mechanic) and he took the MAF off and sprayed electrical cleaner inside. Then waited for it to dry out before plugging it back in, worked a treat for me.
June 1, 201510 yr Author Just one more thing for today lol. Is my diff oil and gear oil the same I can only find 2 dipsticks Subaru manual says there separate but I can't fine any more dipsticks.
June 1, 201510 yr Yes mate the dipstick for the gearbox is also for the front diff, it's a combined unit, it also acts as the fill up hole for the box oil ! Rear diff you'll have to undo the top nut on the backside of the diff as you look at it from the rear, should be just about level with the hole if the levels correct
