ChrisD Posted July 24, 2015 Share Posted July 24, 2015 According to the law, you cannot have any modifications to your exhaust system that makes it louder than standard. is this enforced? as I'm sure most Subaru owners would be breaking the law based on this. sounds stupid to me, I can see why they would have a sound limit but to limit it against itself seems ridiculous and pointless. just wondering what I can say if i am ever pulled over by a jobs worth, also anyone had experience in this? Gambit Posted July 24, 2015 Share Posted July 24, 2015 Well mine was 85db to 90db on tick over according to my phone app. And is pretty loud Dan and a few others have said they can hear me coming. I even Shake alex's windows when I go past his house. I had a Mk2 Escort standard 1.3 engine and exhaust system ripped that out and changed it to a 1.6 twin 40's and an Ashley race system to a 2 and a 1/4" from the manifold back!! Lol never got any problems. Agreed with above tho, if you take the 'hiss' and sit outside poor Doris's house testing the revs and backfire then I'm sure the cops might have something to say!!! aucky Posted July 24, 2015 Share Posted July 24, 2015 all my neighbours told me they sold their alarm clock when i got my first scooby lol .when i passed test in 80's and was a boy racer(still am a heart really :D )people said you could get done for exhaust being 2 loud then,but as said popo dont bother unless your being a dic and p them off then they could get funny,mostly traffic cops that can be funny about it.once had a traffic cop tell me he would inpound my fiesta rs turbo and take it apart nut by nut to find stuff wrong becouse i was being a young smart ao,so best to be nice and polite and they sould be ok with you. 3 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Phila67 Posted July 28, 2015 Share Posted July 28, 2015 I read somewhere that you cannot be pulled for noise from an exhaust if it has been bought off the shelf. You also cannot fail an not on noise. So, if you buy a performance exhaust off the shelf and fit it without modifying it, legally you are ok. insurance declaration is a whole other issue as are your neighbours.
