Mikeparkyn11
Hi again all. Since my last post. I have had a friend look over it (mechanic) he's done a sniff test. Very puzzled. Sniff test after a few minutes went yellowish green. Meaning head gasket then, he said will do a 2nd time just to check and then it didn't change colour? It over heats after about 10mile drive every time or after about 20minute drive. Its still got this problem. He did take rad cap off and start her up and said that the coolant shouldn't be spitting and bubbling out like that... also.... top rad hose hot and tight? Bottom cold thanks guys
Mikeparkyn11
Also fan inside the car not getting warm
stants
I'm no expert but if it's spitting out it's a sure sign of the heads gone,
Mikeparkyn11
I starting to think that. Just seems odd don't over hear all the time, no egg smell, gaskets look ok around the edge, no oil in water, no water in oil... so strange
Scoobyghost
Bottom rad cold and no cabin heat is air lock which could easily be caused by head letting exhaust gases in.
Mikeparkyn11
That is very true. As I've bled the coolant 3 times now and still a block or leak.
stants
From what I've been told subaru's don't really do the mayo thing or drink all the coolant, they expel it all instead so If it's going mental in the expansion tank probably why
Mikeparkyn11
Just stressful as cars only done 64k... was going to change all next summer
Scoobyghost
Can you get a second opinion on the sniff test? Do think it's hg related.
Mikeparkyn11
I keep reading up on them is k-seal? Is it any good. I am going to a local garage tomorrow for bit more advice on what route to take as... heads and timing change is going to be about 1k my rough quote I had
Scoobyghost
K seal is no good for what you want. It's meant to seal small holes but I wouldn't trust it as it could clog up other parts that don't need blocking.
Mikeparkyn11
That's what I thought. Just stressful as don't have the money at the moment and was going to do it next year
stants
It's rubbish don't use it only good if your stuck and need to get home with no intention of using engine again.
Mikeparkyn11
Ok so had sniff test done again. Been told it's heads. Been told I have managed to drive to work and back because the head is fine but when exhaust gets hot it makes head expand taking the exhaust gas and pushing into coolant that's why there no oil in water and water in oil. I am now wondering on what kind of price I should be looking at or if anyone can recommend someone near Aylesbury Buckinghamshire

Tidgy
yip, as above, full rebuild, only unkown will be what damage has been done and you'll need it to be stripped down to find that out
