Phillip1993
Hi guys just a quick 1 my impreza has individual coil packs but iv seen a lot of them have 1 coil pack with ht leads wot is better and is thay a way of changing it thanks
savage bulldogs
The individual coil packs are a better to give a stronger spark ,hence why subaru went back to using that method later on in the impreza range. It's just the classic individual coil packs are old tech (23yrs old) and don't perform as well as the newage coil packs . So in my opinion if you wanted to upgrade your coil packs I'd look into a newage coil pack conversion. It cost me £ 80 for some second hand newage coil packs with pigtails and about 2 hrs with a soldering iron [emoji6] If it's not broke .....upgrade it 😊
Jay762
Both work great for standard cars, tuned versions running higher boost run better with the stick coils. Yes you can change if you would like - in fact there is a member current trying to sort an issue with his motor that may require a stick coil conversion - he has just purchased new coils and leads so may be up for a trade?? savage bulldogs
To do a newage coil pack conversion you need the newage coil pack plugs with wires (cut off the newage engine loom) Cos you have to solder the 2 pin classic plugs onto the newage "pigtails" (plugs with 500 mm of engine loom) . Earth the 3rd wire that comes off the newage pigtails and then bypass the classic "igniter" behind the boost solinoid bracket. I think there's a link in my build thread on here that I used when doing my conversion. Can't remember the name of the site but it might come up with a google. Have a read through and make sure your ok with a soldering iron before having a go yourself 😉 If it's not broke .....upgrade it 😊
