10-40 fully synthetic is what's recommended for classics

I was aways told to use as cheap as possible for the first 500 miles preferably a mineral oil as modern oils are to slippery and don't alow the rings to cut the top off the peaks that the honeing leaves behind

Generally most people run in for 1k using mineral oil gradually increasing the max revs from 2.5k rpm in stages of 1k rpm per 100 mls . Refresh the mineral oil and filter at 500 mls ,then start using spurts of low actuated boost (0.5 bar max ) low down in the Rev range for the next 500 mls . This helps to bed the rings and lessen the chance of glazing the bores .

If it's been rebuilt with standard internals using standard tolerances most use millers 10 w 40 fully synthetic after the running in period on a classic.

If it's not broke .....upgrade it 😊

I currently have 5w 30 semi just whilst i started the car, but have ran it for a good hour on idle, and done about a mile so far just wondering if i need to chamge it before i do the 500 mile bed in?

Not too sure to be honest as I've only ever been evolved in the running in of 2 turbo engines and we used the method above for both my forged scooby and a mates skyline.

You could maybe drop the semi out (ooh er misses ) @ 250 mls then change to 10 40 mineral with a new filter before you start using low boost ?

I ended up using 2x millers running in oil and now run millers 10 w 50 nano drive with a Mahle oil filter . Phone tim @ Opie Oils as we get a club discount and he knows his oil options [emoji6]

Keep us updated on how it goes and all the best bud [emoji106]

running in, 500 miles with !Removed! nasty mineral oil, 500 on semi synthetic, then change for full synthetic and map away at 1000 miles.

Could only get hold of 15w 40 mineral oil so im gona run that for 500 mile put a filter on with it, an after that change filter an put a good 10w 40 fully ?

Should be ok , just follow the gradual off boost rev limit increases and then use actuated boost low down in the Rev range.

If you cant manually turn the boost down (via apexi ecu or a controller) You get actuated boost by buy passing the boost control system .

run a vac line from turbo outlet to actuator and plug any vac lines /ports you disconnected. This should give you a max 0.5 bar boost limit so you don't have full boost untill the engines run in with proppa oil [emoji6]

Imo you need to rev the engine to more than 3k off boost and then (once you've run it in off boost at higher revs) use 0.5 under 4.5k to bed the rings in to stop glazing of the bores .

But as I said before, I've only ever used this method for 2 turbocharged engines , so it's just a opinion [emoji6]

neither of my engines have been and they have both been crackers. As you say opinions seem to vary on whats right and wrong, my advice is go with what your builder says.

I think he rebuilt it himself [emoji6]

I've got nowhere near the experience as s.c but personally I wouldn't think that the first time a freshly built engine hits over 3k should be on full boost while being mapped for the first time .
