Hi so i have but a deposit down on a forester sti as when i have looked for insurance i was under the impression it is insured as a forester xt japanese import because there isn't a UK equivalent. am i right here because when i just looked looked on elephant they have the sti import 330 model which comes back as near as makes no difference 5k instead of 2k which is what i was getting originally.any help would be greatly appreciated and the sooner the better as im supposed to be getting it in September.

Did it not auto recognise the number plate?

It's always hit and miss. My old import got recognised but my current UK Impreza doesn't get found by some systems. Apart from that it needs to be insured as it shows on the log book.

Ok thanks i will get the details from the v5c and hopefully it isn't 5k.

Could be registered as a non turbo being an import. Bare it in mind. Insurers will look for any reason not to pay out. Could plead ignorance but prepare for a battle.

Well this is the log book they sent me, unsure what to do, i really really want the car more than you can believe but unsure about getting insurance as unsure what to put the model as, they know its a 2.5 and not a 2.0 and said it will be changed when i buy it. Do i just chance it and insure it as a forester xt 2.5 import?

Ye I'm going to try Keith Michaels, a plan adrian flux and sky insurance as they all seem to have good reviews.

best bet matey, it's not that rare in the UK now.

You'll need to sort the details with DVLA, which may be  PITA, but worth doing so no issues down the line

Well if i can get for under 3k I'll be happy, the details will be sorted when i purchase it, just hope the insurance is cheap enough as i really want it. If not it will have to wait till another day.

Should be able to ring them now to get a quote and see where you stand, they should be able to price it based on it being forrester sti

Not from keith michaels yet but best i have got is 2800 which im happy with but 3000 compulsory excess next cheapest is just over 4k with 350 excess.

Haha i think im gonna go with a legacy 3.0r spec v as i know i can get cheapish insurance and it still a pretty quick car and I'll just have to wait to get a forester, in 4 years time I'll probably want something else anyway.

Holy crap.. you probably not only want to wait till you are 40 before buying one of these, you might also think about moving to somewhere with lower insurance premiums as well!
