Archie
Hi guys, I'm going to buy a new Impreza 1.6 RC. Can someone advise whether I should go for manual or auto? I will be keeping the car for 5 years and do about 6k a year. On Autotrader, auto's seem to hold their value better. My preference is Auto but I don't want to make an expensive mistake. All advise will be gratefully received, thanks.
Jay762
Wotcha and welcome - is your 6K a year mostly motorways or around town? Auto makes for a more relaxed drive - no gear changing etc What is you driving style? As if you intend to 'drive' the car go for a manual option. Mark D
Also people get the impression a boy racer hasn't owned it when it comes to selling :) don't know what the auto is like on them, but on my older 2001 car I drive it like a manual by downshifting with the lever and up shifting by letting off the accelerator slightly and it changes gear when I want it to. 3 point turns and overtaking take longer though. I think the awd system also reacts differently auto/manual. Sent from my iphone using Tapatalk
Archie
I came across a dealer, not far from me by accident the other day and I didn't know that Subaru still sell Ford Focus size cars. No one in the motoring press seems to have reviewed one. As I'm about to change my car and fancy something different, maybe the car gods have sent me in the right direction. I was also looking at a Auto box, but the type of car/stroke buyer may be put off, as it's a CVT non paddle shift type. I'm not interested in performance as I ride a bike to get my jollies and points! :-(

david1972
0-60 on the new 1.6 Impreza is slow; manual or auto. You won't find better for reliability though[emoji106] Sent from my iphone using Tapatalk
Archie
All cars are slow, compared to 0-60 in just over 3 secs on a bike! It's the reliability and low depreciation that is attracting me.

quit
Friend of mine worked for Toyota said that some of the new auto boxes change faster than a human can !
Mark D
Maybe the actual changing of gear, but the bit that normally takes a while is when you put your foot down and the car decides whether it can get power in the same gear or if it needs to change down. I know there's a little button behind the accelerator pedal that helps it know what to do but have to be 100% throttle to push it!
