SRMXEX
Hi all at the weekend I think that my head gasket has gone 😫 Inspection needed first to find out. If it has would it just be best to fit a new lump if so what do I fit? It's a 2.0 thanks in advance 👍🏻

wrxstandard
How can you defo know or check if head is gone on a bug/blob? Is there some sort of test which is simple? █ W █ R █ X █
Sirspidey
Old school check for head gasket gone is white/creamy sludge on the oil filler cap/dip stick. But there might be another way
Scoobyghost
Get a sniff test done. That will detect exhaust gases in the coolant. Most common failure of head gasket on Imprezas are between exhaust and coolant

It was incredibly hard to tell without the sniff test to confirm. I suspected mine had gone for a couple of weeks but the car seemed to run fine. It was only after leaving it idling after a fast run that it suddenly over heated. Don't try and work it out yourself, original poster....just get it into a garage for a test! coldcuppatea
It's a 11.4 hour job mate. Sod that I'd look at a new engine lol Not far off being cheaper to do new engine once I include the cost of precautionary bottom end rebuild, but it's low mileage and otherwise fine so does work out better to fix. wrxstandard
Is there an age the head goes on these cars, i read somewhere the average life of a standard head gasket is around 150k. Could be baloney - my old wrx leaked at around 115k - not far from my wrx mileage now! And does any of that copper sealant liquid help to prolong it? █ W █ R █ X █
