Outback cambelt change.

Featured Replies

I need to change the cambelt on my 2006 Outback 3.0Rn, can anybody advise me as to what other parts should be changed at the same time.

If you have had it done recently can you give me an idea of cost.

Thanks in advance.

Should be chain, not belt driven

Def chain. Only replace if noisy/failing. Known to go easy 300k miles provided tensioners etc don't let go.

In my ignorance I had assumed that this car had a chain, however today whilst checking the oil I noticed what I would definately

call a cambelt on the front of the engine. The model is a non facelift 2006, in the service book it says 60000miles or 6 years, cambelt change.

So it's a bit late, because I was sure it was a chain.

What you are seeing is the accessory belt, droves the aircon, power steering pump, and alternator. Also called v belt. Can need changing, if you do it's recommended to change the idler pulley and the tensioner pulley as those bearings can and do, fail. Easy to do.

The service book is probably used for various models... which is why it will say that.

The cambelt/timing chains are generally behind covers so you can't see them
