Jay762
sounds like one of your sensors, one of the more knowledgeable members will be along shortly and will probably know exactly which one
Tlag
Could be one of a number of sensors. Best thing to do is get it checked for codes which will tell you exactly which one.
Jay762
Cant remember if this model can use an OBD reader...?
Gambit
I think it's the classic shape. Can you do the black wire connector to check. Here's how to do it guide :) http://uk.subaruownersclub.com/forums/topic/2366-manually-reading-ecu-codes-classic-impreza%E2%80%99s-only/
rallyally
Thanks guys... Can they check the codes without the light being on constantly? Will take a look at that link from the laptop later but thanks gambit. ?? Girly moment... What's an OBD reader jay? :-) x
Gambit
It's a little device that plugs into the car's computer and read's any error codes from the car. But by the look's of it only the newage that work.
Bip
Yes you can check the codes without the light being on permanently. It's will give you any and all stored codes. Make a note of any codes you get then reset the ECU. Go for a drive and see if the CEL comes back. Check the codes again and you will know what's up with it. The reason I say do all this is because if you have old stored codes from previous problems that have since been fixed you could end up chasing a problem that no longer exists.
rallyally
I appreciate the advice guys... I think i solved the problem. I changed the knock sensor and it seemed to have done the job. So far so good. I just hope i don't jinx myself now in saying that.

rallyally
Ahh... I'm not and never have been a girly girl. I fix my cars and go hunting, never wear make up and can drink the best of them under the table.
Gambit
Memo to self don't go drinking with rallyally and get to drunk and try to arm wrestle will result in humiliation [emoji6] I think you would get along with Diz on here she's s bit of an action girl too but with motorbikes. But does have a very nice scooby.
