Any recommendations for decent garages? Devon, Plymouth

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone knows of any decent garages for general servicing, small repairs etc? (In the Plymouth and surrounding area)

I have used engine tuner (Alan Jeffrey) for a couple bits, but I'm not sure how they price for servicing/repairs, as I know they're keen on the modifying front. (Maybe they're good for servicing, but would be good compare to alternatives).

Cheers

Ian

They are hard to find. Mr B (forum member) is from the south maybe near you. Sounds like a safe pair of hands to me. Hope he don't mind me dropping his name.

Does not help much but stay away from so called dealerships as they have not got a clue in my area.

Cheers Jay, seems to be! They seem like good guys, just wasn't sure if they would be best to go to when I want something interesting doing, rather than for.just bog standard servicing sort of stuff..

..as in, I know they're specialists and when you want something special doing, you pay a price, just hope that price doesn't float across to the more normal stuff.

From what I know (word of mouth / reputation etc) they are fair in their pricing - however hold out for a @Mr B response as he should provide an alternative - in theory his own place?? And TBF he knows a thing or two about Fozzys that is for sure 😁

I realise this post and my message come across as very:

"AJ is the best and I just need a plain ol' garage to fix my stuff"

Not my intention at all, it's more that I know AJ specialises heavily in modifying, tuning etc and as someone who has not done much modifying in my car passed changing light bulbs, I wasn't sure whether I'd find myself a bit out of place..🙈

Its a justifiable viewpoint, totally understandable  however you may be sworn to secrecy with @Mr B as he has maintained mysterious anonymity to date 😁

Ahhhhhh ok... that makes sense as to why it's a bit hush hush on here then!!!

Well, as someone who never owned a Subaru before and went from a Focus 1.6tdci to a 2.5 Forester XT, I'm keen to learn and behave!

I've (we've...wife and I 🙄) owned the foz for probably just over half a year. It's developed a couple issues recently, dead window winder on the drivers side (inconvenient with our Christmas travels and ferry check in booths!!!), and then a dead low beam on the passenger side.

I had a spare bulb in the car which I tried, but alas, no joy, the condensation in the headlight leads me to believe it's the ballast as well. I'd like to try and dry it out, but without a garage (or a driveway) to work in, I think I'm going to have to visit the pro's!

I mentioned Mr B as in his posts it sounds like he still works on cars. He also talks a lot of sense and seems to know his stuff. I would be happy for him to work on my car. I do not know his exact location but know he is in your part of the country.

Just took a trip to Engine Tuner to ask about a couple bits... turns out they don't touch HID's 😑

Which is a bit of a nightmare seeing as my ballast is probably dead...

I assume ballast because I changed the bulb with a spare I had and it didn't work, plus the headlight has condensation inside...

Fiddly pain in the backside, but replaced the ballast myself after getting lots of advice from other Foz owners, resealed the headlight and so far seems sorted 🙂

Service needed soon so I guess Alan Jeffreys might be the place to go...
