High Millage new or Lower and older

Featured Replies

Hi

I'm looking (again) at an outback to replace my Mitsubishi Outlander. If I'm looking at 15K to 16k am i better off going for the later car with higher miles or the older car with lower.

I understand 2019 onwards was a new chassis and 90% new engine I'm just wondering if it's worth the extra money or if I should look at the last of the old gen?

Thanks in advance

I was in the same position as you. I would take a view on the individual car you find.

I bough a 2018 with high miles but it had full main dealer service history, newish tyres and good MOT history. The dealer I bought from serviced it, put it through MOT and then replaced anything that came up as an advisory. They also took it to main dealer who serviced the gearbox (which I paid for).

The car is super smooth and did 41 mpg using cruise on the 100 mile drive back.

You'll also get a warranty if you buy from dealer so theres a small safety net too.

Hi

Thanks for the replies. I understand what you're saying in general car buying terms but if I understand correctly cars newer than 2019 ish are a completely new platform.

Maybe if I'm being clearer is it worth taking the extra miles to get onto the newer platform?

I think I can get into a solid 2018 with average miles or maybe a 2020 if I buy with close to 100k.

Great. What can i expect to be better with the newer car?

I would expect better spec, more modern and higher comfort levels.

I have a 2018 and i miss having heated steering wheel and 12V socket in the boot, both of which I think the MY20 has. I think more trim level were introduced with touring being the top spec

More modern = more unreliable .
From working on this junk daily we see more faults and problems on the newer vehicles, component quality and way it is assembled is a massive decline (and I mean MASSIVE), sure it high tec and comfort but when the electronics/software are cheap/sloppy manufacture and the general assembly is a optimised cost effort you pay the price in constant repair bills and hassle resolving stupid problems/faults . .

Thanks all. Looks like a 2.5i se premium is the one to go for before 2020 but afterwards I'm not sure what the difference is between field and touring spec.

The reviews of the later car say its 90% new including the engine but everything seems so similar it's hard to believe. The mpg power and torque are so close I'm not sure what they did differently

I've got a Field spec, and it's pretty well equipped. The Touring is similar but adds the following: memory seats (with Nappa leather), sunroof, front and side cameras, Harmon Kardon stereo, plus one or two other things I can't remember at the moment.

Thanks that's useful. It does however make me want the touring spec as I'd love a Harmon Kardon setup. Music quality is the only thing I've ever been frustrated with on my mitsubishi.

Sorry I'm bumping my own post but is anyone an advocate for the generation before?

My outlander is billy basic spec and i very much enjoy that no system intervenes with my driving. I do enjoy not worrying about getting where i'm going.

Have any of you upgraded from gen 5 to 6 (if that's what happened in the uk)
