Can anyone help me please, i require a rear diff for my impreza turbowagon (classic) 51 plate 2001, would earlier or later model diffs fit my car? Iv found one for sale off a 52 plate wrx would this fit my 2001 model?

Your gearbox code should be on the metal plate in the engine bay

Then you can find what diff you require

Hi mate welcome to S.O.C 

You have to look for it on the Gearbox itself from memory it's passanger side of the bellhousing. If you shine a torch down the left side of the motor at the back near the firewall where the gearbox meets the motor you should see a white sticker with the code on it. If not try the driver side, should be able to see it.

The gearbox code sticker is just above the starter motor not he bell housing. From memory, the code is about 16 digits long.

Oh there you go I couldn't remember I knew I had seen it. And wasn't going out to check straight away. Chucking it down with thunder and lighting   :)

Thanks guys very helpfull i'll check this tommorow, had problems with parts for this car i assume cos of different variosions off the impreza.

I think you should have a r160 rear diff with a 3.5.4 uk ratio as standard

just google your ty.... gearbox code (off the white sticker under the tmic near the starter motor) to double check as it might have had a box change in the past
