'12 STI/Cosworth running costs

Hi all,

I'm looking at buying a WRX STI cosworth and I'm just wondering whether anyone knows what the real world costs of day to day running would be?

I've got a 03 blob eye and don't really know anything about the new age 2.5ltr models in terms of service frequency, fuel consumption etc let alone one that cosworth have got their hands on!!

What's the general consensus with the new age hatchbacks and reliability etc?

Cheers

I've not heard of too many of the newer 2.5,s going wrong, if any. I doubt the fuel consumption is any different to a normal 2.5 model, unless you really give it the beans for a good while. I can't see any reason why servicing schedule would be any different either.

What may be an issue, is if it does go wrong. With so few of the cosworth being built, you may suffer for getting bits, if you need any.

Sorry, can't be more help.

I had no problems - however mine was not a Cosworth, there was a member on here from IoM who had a Cosworth and it was having issues - last we heard it was going back to the dealer for inspection - haven't had an update for some time now.

fuel economy is going to be similar to your own but I would get a professional rolling road and map session done just to ensure no ringland issues will occur.

Given the chance I would own a Cosworth hatch -

I had to look at the name and double take I thought a up I'm sure you have been here for awhile now :D I thought it was a new member asking ;)

And Cosworth enough said ;)

I doubt be much more than what you have now as said before. But Photo will be a must so thats a warning ;)

Haha I've been here a little while but the newer age models are a complete unknown to me so thought I'd put it out there. It was a bit of a n00b question granted and heres another @Jay, "ringland issues"?

Thanks for the advice everyone, pretty much confirms what I was hoping everyone would say. Will update (with photos) if I do make the plunge.

Exciting times!

A lot of the 08 onwards cars suffered with it Subaru called a few back to be done under warranty. I know Scooby Petes mate had a problem with his not sure what happened with it in the end. but with your's having Cosworth touch it I would have thought that would have been sorted

Ringland failure is what happens to the piston due to use of rubbish fuel and or lots of high revs on the original subaru map (I believe it ran too lean at the top end in No. 4 pot)

scroll down to Salsas post on the first page for a picture of the piston failure, obviously if not addressed this leads to burnt oil, bore scoring etc

Thanks Jay, that's good to know. Although I only put v-power, I'll have to make sure the garage put the same in given it's a 400 mile round trip to go pick it up.....as I bought it!!

It was probably the most fun I've had in a car, and I've been "lucky" enough to drive a lot of Porsches through work and they don't come close!

Just need to sell mine and I'll post pics!!

Nice one mate a bit jealous sound like your jobs awsome :D

And look forward seeing the pictures, hope the sale goes well. And I bet them 200 miles back home was the best 200 miles of nothing but enjoyment and cheeks hurting pleasure :D

Have put a holding fee, but need to sell mine first before I can pick it up. I'll post pics as soon as I get it home, it'll be a couple of weeks yet but they'll be here, I promise!!
