What turbo...

Featured Replies

Now I know people have talked about upgrading their turbos and I am considering it. Just to upgrade it there is the question I need an answer to...

What turbo is already on my car?

I have a Bug eye WRX 2.0, it has various prodrive stuff on it but I know that doesn't include anything turbo wise. Sorry if I sound a little clueless, any help would be great!

The prodrive kit tends to be an air filter remap and sports back box - it can also include an uprated fuel pump - the turbo would be untouched as part of that kit

I would say you have a TD04 on at the moment - Gambit et al will probably be along shortly to confirm that.

When you say upgrade your turbo what are you looking for as you can get an equivalent size but better quality turbo with lower resistance internals which will reduce spool up time or are you going for more power - if so there may be other options you could consider before bolting on a bigger turbo in isolation.

Okay that has cleared things up quite a bit, well a faster spooling turbo would be good as I haven't really been thinking "I need more power" at least not yet.

the new age sti turbos are good vf 35 good for 300+ bhp with the right  supporting mods cost  £350ish +fitting and map if you are looking for faster spool you will need to go down the billet turbo rute

starting price for this is aprox £1000 +fitting and map  hope this helps

So supporting mods would be injectors and pump I presume? :)

there are a few threads on here where engine mods for more power are discussed and the short answer is it varies as dependant on what engine you have you could be looking at a full engine rebuild to cope.

but supporting mods could include the pump, injectors, map, intake, exhaust, bigger TMIC or FMIC

Hmm well I think I will leave it for now then, see if it's worth doing later down the line. Thank you for the help

If it's not been mapped before and running standard boost I think you'd be quite surprised at the difference the half bar of extra boost will make that you'd get from a decated upipe and remap .

Should increase the power to about 280 mabye 290 which with a quicker spooling tdo4 would beat a standard sti in a 0 to 60 run ;-)

All I know is that it's got prodrive stuff:

- ECU

- Y Pipe

- Exhaust

- Quickshift

- Spoiler

- Suspension

That's all the mods I think
