Well this is a thread about my Subaru, never done one of these before so sorry in advance if it's a little boring ;)

Yesterday the donated suspension arrived from Tom along with the front splitter. So I decided it's time to get a couple of things done on the car, after work I dropped it in the garage and set to work having a play. Here is a couple of pictures before.

The first thing was to get the spoiler off and take a look to see if the snapped bolt is serious or not. Must say it doesn't look that nice without the spoiler on!

post-2084-0-06794300-1397311972_thumb.jp

After taking it off you can see where it was sat due to all the Sahara dust and stuff that has been getting trapped under it!

After - Tcut and touched up the parts where it had rubbed down to metal so it stays protected

Back to the spoiler turns out the bolt is easy to take out and replace :)

After, nice new thread to screw the nut onto

post-2084-0-35175300-1397312427_thumb.jp

That will be put back on once everything else is done, next thing is to sort out the rear light as at the moment I could keep a goldfish in there lol. So took the light out and found where the water was getting in. Much better now, the after pic will be on later.

Now onto the suspension, the top mounts didn't match so just had to mix and match the best bits from what I had left. Now I have some decent rear suspension to put on, happy days!

New ride height

post-2084-0-40576600-1397312727_thumb.jp

While that was being done I got on with fitting the front splitter, nice and easy job as all the holes are already in the bumper :) , not often jobs are that easy on cars lol.

So now the car is nicer to ride in and looks a bit better, all that's left is to polish up the black side skirts as they are looking fairly tired. Will do that tomorrow when the weather is better. This is the car now...

Big thank you to my brother in law who owns Varley Motors, he always helps me out with anything car related :D

Thanks, yeah its a lot easier having someone in the family that owns a garage. I try and help most of the time but if its too complicated i leave it to him. I'm loving the front splitter, finishes it off nicely i think.

  • 3 weeks later...

Just done an oil change, very little filings on the magnetic sump plug :)

While at the garage I mentioned about it lagging on take off, after some exploration we noticed it has some sort of electrical misfire. As it's late I will hand the car over at the weekend maybe to get it sorted. Does explain a lot though.

Yeah that has got to be it Gambit, I was under powered which gave him the advantage ;) .

It had plugs in 5k miles ago, suppose one could be failing. How would leads? Also is there anything else that might be causing it?

Tidy looking scoob you've got there fella :-)

I'd love to have access to some ramps ect :-(

have to do my major work on a hard standing in the back garden (did my engine build on the kitchen table lol) Maybe get it dyno'd one of cheapest routes for a fault find imo

as for magnetic sump plugs you will get a little bit of swarf on them through normal wear n tear (better on the plug than running through the oil system)

I fitted one to mine as although the block is ally the bore sleves and moving components aren't ;-)

Thanks savage, yeah it's a massive help having access to a garage that has ramps and all the tools needed :) . I've been thinking of getting a dyno run done as I would love to know what it's currently at.

I have been following your build, looks great and it seems you have something I don't have much of... knowledge ;)  haha. I know a fair bit but i wouldn't feel confident enough to do stuff myself.

As they say, better out than in ;)

Also forgot to mention, noticed the Bailey BOV is looking really dirty inside so will be taking that off to check it over and give it a good clean

  • 1 month later...

As some of you may be aware I bought these:

They are wrong for my car due to there being bulb holders in them. Mine are just blank reflectors so these would look wrong, I was going to send them back on Monday but then remembered I have some Carbon wrap laying around. So I had a quick go at doing one...

post-2084-0-05464900-1402129466_thumb.jp

Think it looks pretty good, so I did the other...

Now I just need to wait for it to stop raining so I can go out and put them on the car!

Okay, managed to get a slight break with the weather and couldn't wait any longer so here we go.

Before with the lovely orange side indicators and reflectors:

Then after, with the smoked side indicators (still need clear bulbs that flash orange) and carbon wrapped reflectors:

I think they look pretty smart, much better than I thought they would look! One thing I learnt when wrapping them is that heat really is your friend, miles easier once you start giving the wrap a bit of heat. Oh yeah before I forget, put this in last night...

post-2084-0-92716700-1402134278_thumb.jp

Much better than the other rubbish one that was in that took up half the windscreen, put up a fight as well. Left loads of sticky residue on the screen but luckily we use some bad **** cleaner at work. A quick spray of that and some good hand action ( ;) ) it came right off!

There are still more things to go on, just waiting for my brother in law to have some free time...

Woke up this morning to plenty of sunshine so decided that I will do a little work on the Subaru, popped the hood and studied the view thinking what I could do. (Also, anyone know what the bracket in the top left is?)

post-2084-0-65422200-1402755559_thumb.jp

Decided that it's way too dirty to wait until I do the hoses so out came the plastic bits to reveal the dirt underneath!

post-2084-0-92796400-1402755627_thumb.jp

I gave the engine bay a good wipe down, used some back to black type stuff on the vav pipes, water hoses and any plastic trim that is in there. Then once that was done used back to black on the airbox and just gave it a really good clean. As for the alternator cover and air scoop I thought it's now or never and went ahead with the wrap. So 2 hours later I ended up with this.

post-2084-0-68096700-1402755607_thumb.jp

Not as easy as I first thought so didn't turn out perfect but it's good enough for me to be happy at the minute :). So went back outside and put it all back together making sure I didn't miss any bolts and all tubing is back in the correct place. The finished product for today is....
