  1. They are not normally that stubborn! Before doing the other side, I would soak it in oil /wd40 the night before and then again just before doing it.
  2. Blimey, word spreads about my back! At the moment it's damn painful but hopefully on the road to recovery.
  3. Ok, the video won't play for me but from the still picture, it looks about right. There is a test you can do on the solenoid to find the voltage but I've never done it. I've always just replaced the unit. If it's an electrical problem, cleaning won't help
  4. Hi Myke, Welcome along. It's just as friendly here as UKL. :)
  5. The big problem with a 6 speed is finding one at a good price :)
  6. Please don't take this the wrong way, but, from the comments above, I'm thinking you have actually cleaned out the throttle body and the valve attached to it. If so, that's the throttle position sensor. The idle control valve is further down the manifold, passenger side. If I'm wrong and you have cleaned the idle control valve several times with no effect, it's probably time for a new one as it's the electronics inside it that won't respond to any amount of cleaning. Although, if it has no effect whatsoever on the running of the car, it's not an urgent job. Have you cleared the code after each time you've cleaned it?
  7. I've not fitted one to a 2008 but every car I have fitted one to has required modifications to make it fit. Things like: Cutting the bumper to allow the intercooler to fit behind it. Re shaping the windscreen washer bottle to allow the pipework to pass, Some cars have required the inner wing to be cut to allow the pipework to go through. Not saying your car will need that work, but I can't imagine it's as simple as bolting it on. If you do it, don't forget to get a remap done or you could end up with it reducing your power and or causing other issues.
  8. Sounds like alarm/immobiliser problem. When you put the key in the ignition and turn the key, do you get anything at all? Dash ign lights, Radio, Electric windows, Interior lights, If nothing works at all, I doubt it's an alarm issue. Time to look at the battery terminals, earthing, etc.
  9. Not familer with anyone to the north to be honest. I'm sure someone will suggest someone soon though. What ecu do you have? If it's ecutec for example, you could just google ecutec mappers.
  10. Plenty of good mappers around. Where in the UK are you?
  11. Yeah, too many mods there not to get it remapped.
  12. Rather than a garage, is it worth ringing a few alarm fitters to ask opinions?

Look at it this way. If your car is 2002 or older, then these mirrors are the future :) Seriously though, it's all personal choice. Personally, I like them.
  14. The same goes for the crank and cam pos sensor. Check for codes to see if one of those has died. When either of those fail, the ecu cannot determine the position of the pulleys in relation to each other. To protect itself, it inhibits the fuel pump. I know this from hitter experience. Luckily, mine was an easy fix as the cam pos plug had just worked loose. Unfortunately, I had done a lot of work and wasted a lot of time before checking the codes. Another think to check is all the earth connections from the engine to the body. I've also had a car fail to start due to a corroded earthing point.
  15. The front seats should swap over very easily but fitting estate ones into a saloon maybe a problem, certainly for the backrest.
  16. The problem is that it's a small audience. People new to the subaru marque only know of one model, the Impreza. You see it all the time in wanted adverts. They just put 'subaru wanted' They just don't know about Legacies, Foresters and Justys. Or for that matter, the Tribeca. Even if they do know about the Legacy, they just don't realise that it's actually more performance than the Impreza. Admittedly, most folk want an Impreza, because it's an Impreza if that makes sense. I wonder how many Impreza wagon owners would have a Legacy if they knew about them.
  17. Now on ebay 331259313183
  18. I was at the pod at the weekend. What times did you get, and what were you after ?
  19. I agree. I'm a great believer in not badgeing something that it's not.
  20. One thing to consider if you break it for parts is this: Once the best bits have gone: interior, wheels, brakes, suspension and any other desirable bits you may have, the rest will sit there for a long time. As much as the sunroof is a nice feature for you, it's an off putting one for a lot of folk as it makes the shell less stiff if it were to be put on a track for example. If you are the type that wields the spammers a lot and regularly, it won't take long to strip the car down. If you are only an occasional spanner user, it will take a long time with much swearing and grazed knuckles along the way. As above, it's probably only worth a few hundred as it is so in my opinion the best way forward is replace the head gaskets. The next best option is get a secondhand engine put it. ( I always have a fear of the head gaskets or bearings letting go the following week though)
  21. The yellow car is my sons. (Bip on here). It's the only one in the UK. I was gutted mine didn't make it as the two together would have been superb. There's always next year :) Here's one I took on the Saturday in the camping area : This one shows some poor sign placement....... Or is it? :) Only just realised that I carried a camera around all weekend and barely used it :(
  22. Superb weekend at the show, great to put a face to a name and the weather was spot on:) Just really wished my project had been ready to take :(
  23. The ecu should be back next week hopefully. Then to run it in and get the full map done. On a side note, a mate of mine who I built the engine for had his mapped today. 332bhp. I'm pleased with that. :)
  24. The mapper visited and his laptop found the ESL ecu but didn't recognise the software on it. The result is that the ecu has been sent back to ESL to investigate. It does mean the car won't be at Japshow though :( I have managed to get on with a load of things whilst I'm waiting though. I had to cut the inside of the bumper to accommodate the fmic. That meant, I couldn't use the fog lights either so I made some grills up and fitted them And fitted it to the car before putting the headlamps and things together. Also finished off under the bonnet with altering the washer bottle to allow room for the fmic pipework, Then attention moved to the interior. Considering I had the entire interior out to fit the new writing loom, it didn't take too long to put back together, which meant I could finally fit my refurbished steering wheel. :) Still some more to do to get the gauges sorted but it was enough to get the base map on and now it should be totally finished before the ecu gets returned. Still going to Japshow, but I'm going in my gen 3 GTB which is for sale. I'll put a for sale sign in it at the show :)
  25. Are you supplying the girls too ? :)
