  5. Over on UK Legacy, the guy who organised the stand passes has had to drop out. In looking for someone responsible to take on the role, he, very oddly, asked me. That means I now have the stand passes. I know that at the moment we don't have enough cars to fill the stand and therefore will have a few spare passes. Technically, if you had one of these passes you should be parking with the Legacies. However, I think the SOC stand may be full anyway. If that's the case, I have no issue with anyone parking on our stand which actually is not far from the SOC stand. If anyone needs a pass, PM me and we can sort it out. Other than that, see you Sunday, unless we bump into other tomorrow. :)

  7. If you hadn't had a sniff test done already, I would have said the head gaskets. As you have had that done and it was negative, it's odd. The only way you get coolant out of the overflow on the expansion tank is with pressurised air entering the system. A split rad for example would just leak. It wouldn't let air back in under pressure. As you got the sniff test done for free, maybe it's worth going somewhere else and paying to have it done again.
  8. Mine are plumbed up similar to above but they vent to atmosphere with a small filter on the end. They are Greddy ones and I think they were about £30 each. As you can see in the diagram above, I could have got away with one and just 'T' them together.
  9. I have a catch can, well two actually (long story and you don't actually need two but now it's in, it's staying). The way I looked at it was: the breather system on the Subaru is designed to put the oil laden back into the intake system. To my way of thinking, that cannot be right. Therefore, blanking the standard system off at the PCV and diverting the dirty air out has to be a good thing. I've only done 600-700 miles since the build and I had a look inside the catch can. Already, their is a slimy mess inside. Not enough to register on the sight bar on the side but still a mess. I'd rather it was caught in the can than allowed back in the engine.
  10. to allow these cars to read in mph instead of kph, a converter chip is fitted (usually behind the instrument cluster). It's not unheard of for them to fail which would cause the speedo to stop working. However, that would be a bit of a coincidence, for it fail at the same time as the revs stopping at 4500rpm. As I said above, read the codes stored on the ecu first. If the car is totally new to you and it's always done this since you owned it, read the codes, make a note of them, clear the codes and go for a drive. Then read the codes again. The reason for this is that you may have stored codes from a long time ago that are no longer applicable.
  11. The engine running out of steam at 4500rpm does sound like boost or fuel cut but why it should make the whole car shake is beyond me. Read the ecu codes first. That's always the first step with any running problems. It should at least point you in the right direction. Which generation GTB is it?

  13. It just so happens I have the engine sat on a bench in my garage. Was fine when removed. It is missing the intake manifold and turbos but has the exhaust manifold still attached
  14. Over half way ran in now. So far, so good. I did 260 miles today so I can get the next oil change done tomorrow. I,m really impressed at the amount of torque it has, even with the turbo restricted right down. Should be even more impressive when I can hook the turbo up properly
  15. The engine should physically fit the engine bay but the wiring will be poles apart. You would probably need to take the entire loom and drivetrain and swap the lot.

  18. I need a front bumper from a bug eye or hawk eye. It's to try something out and I will need to cut it up so I don't need one that's in good condition. For obvious reasons, ones for sale are generally in reasonable condition and are asking for a fair but high price. Colour dosnt matter but factory spec preferred. So, what have you got laying around that's damaged and cheap :)

  20. The long number on the vin plate will explain all. If it begins BE, it's a gen 3 saloon. It's on the passenger side suspension turret. The other option for clarity is a photograph of the car.
  21. The full designation for the B4 is B4 RSK. (Rally sport Kompressor). The B4 is a Generation 3 model and will have the twin turbo set up. The Gen 4 models have the twin scroll system but the designations changed and the B4 label was dropped. Actually having B4 on the logbook is a bonus, I've only ever seen 'Legacy'. The twin turbo variants: Gen 2: GT and GTB are both wagons, RS and RSB are the saloons. A special edition model was the GTB Ltd which was a wagon only. Gen 3: GT and GTB are still wagons, B4 RSK is the saloon. Special edition models also existed in the Gen 3 age such as Blitzen and S-Edition. Both available as saloon or wagon. All the above are JDM only and were available as manual or auto box. The options list on all the above was enormous so its rare to find two of the same spec.

  23. Servicing will be the same on both and is really quite easy. The only awkward bit is changing the plugs but it's fiddly rather than difficult. My advice stands. If you are able, test drive both.
  24. The gen 3 that you are looking at is a twin turbo. The gen 4 mentioned is a twin scroll turbo. The gen 3 twin turbo setup is not to everyones taste. The primary turbo runs out of boost before it boosts again along with the secondary turbo. There is a 3-500rpm rev range between the turbos that is commonly referred to as the VOD or 'valley of death' It means you have to plan overtakes more as you don't want to pull out and find you have no boost. The twinscroll does away with that. Personally I prefer the gen 3 twin turbo. Its difficult to describe but it has more character. That's just personal opinion and you really need to drive both for yourself. Both cars are of an age when rust may be an issue so check that side of it carefully. They are not prone to rust any more than any other car but check anyway. Interiors wear well so they should show little sign or wear.
