  1. If washers are fitted to headlights then they have to be both working for a MOT pass. Same if you have headlight wipers. Usually the plastic pop-up fitting breaks which means getting a replacement. As for the relay, I still can't trace it out yet.
  2. Don't link up all your social media stuff. It's a bad idea.
  3. Some insurance brokers will write a cover note for a month in anticipation and agreement that you will honour an insurance commitment with them.
  4. ok, I found a diagram of the relays - it's under the fuse box cover! Obvious and should have looked there. Now, I still don't know what relay it is though or if it even uses one? Can't see it... what's a SBF or ALT-Def or any of the others? There's lots of acronyns here which mean little to me because I'm not an electrician lol. See attached photo. Anyone know please?
  5. Fixed for now... suspect it won't stay that way if its a relay connection. I need to find which relay it is to check the connections really... It's a 2007 (57) WRX 2.5, not STI. :) Thanks
  6. The trouble with trying to get your money back from some blagger who's professing to be a company and isn't, when obviously having sold a water logged engine or a blown head gasket ceased engine, is that it becomes a civil matter. The problem is there is a private address in this which means it may not allegedly be on the back of the company, or if it is then it was done allegedly illegitimately. If the company knew, then its allegedly worse of course. If it went to court it would be costly and there's little the buyer can do for a refund unless the seller omitted "Sold as seen" where it would be more favourable to the judge.
  7. Well, not sure what it was. The headlight washers were not working... they are supposed to come on a few seconds after pushing the washer button if its held in. So, they were definitely not popping up even after 20 seconds of holding in the washer button. Inside the cab, I took out both fuses for windshield wiper washer (15), and rear wash wipe (14) - which mine does not have because its a sedan WRX. I suspected it may be fuse 14 therefore. But, there was no fuse problem with either when I electrically tested both. I then went to the front fuse box in the engine compartment and checked all the relays, just pushing them in slightly to see they were home and located properly. They were all connected... I checked the headlight washers and suddenly they were working! I can only hope this fixes it for a while. So, I reckon it was a simple loose connection on a relay, but I don't know which one because the car manual shows what the fuses are, but doesn't show what the relays are. Doh! It will help all if someone here has a WRX and WRX STi fuse and relay diagram :) With Thanks.
  8. Are you going to piant the wheels gold? :)
  9. My WRX 2.5 has pop-up washers for the head lights. They were working last week. Now they're not. This causes an MOT failure. I checked the fuse and it looks ok. Are there any known issues with them? Any suggestions for what I can check please? Thanks ☺
  10. Matt, I'm south of Cambridge :)
  11. Hi Stants, who coordinates for the London or East Anglia region please? Sheffield is a long drive for me, so something more local would be good. Cheers.
  12. EDIT :)
  13. ah right, understand. :) Was thinking about that but my work would not be happy with even more noise lol ;) Interestingly, I found the standard black air scoop is best when its pushed on and then pulled back to lock-in the join with the white pipe in the wing. When I did this the acceleration impact was immense! Sealing up all tubes so they're air tight makes a big difference on these engines :)
  14. Hi Matt, just out of interest, if you re-clipped these hoses on the air box using something else, what would that be? I've tried to find something else myself but its challenging to find anything that will fit. If you've got two spares though I'm interested :) With Thanks.
  15. Nice one. If its like my shed and garage you'll be lost in there a week. My wife has a walkie-talkie to retrieve me lol. PM me if you find them and we can discuss further. Many Thanks Matt :)
  16. Thought I'd add a photo. A picture paints more than a thousand words... The left clip has broken at the bottom and the right clip has broken underneath where it joins into the air box. If anyone knows where to get these clips (other than a main dealer) then I'd appreciate the info. Thanks.
  17. I noticed today that both black plastic w clips / clamps have broken on top of my air filter box (with the air filter inside). These seem to push into the top corners of the air box. I found one clip bit under the air box after removing the long air intake scoop. These two air box clips support and hold in place two black water hoses (one thicker than the other). Because these clips get hot, the plastic gets brittle and breaks. Does anyone know where to get replacement air box top plastic clips please? I've not seen any yet. With Thanks :)
  18. If you get a good sealed battery that you don't have to top up with de-ionised water then it will have decent plates in so that the battery will hold the charge for longer and last longer. It has a gauge to indicate whether the battery needs charge which could be handy for you. But you get what you pay for with car batteries. See example here:http://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/car-sealed-battery_109339987.html
  19. I tightened up all the air hoses and put a fuel clip on the looser small hose connection after the MAF. When there's no air leaks, the power and response is really improved. :)
  20. Depends on what your car year is too, but here's a cheap one and cheap postage too: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Subaru-Impreza-turbo-classic-bonnet-scoop-/231482537499?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item35e56f361b or http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Subaru-Impreza-Hawkeye-WRX-Bonnet-Scoop-02C-Genuine-Subaru-06-07-/171671033380?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item27f8641624 Just typed in Subaru Bonnet Scoop and quite a few come up... take your pick :)
  21. yeah, the braking thing is annoying. It's weird because you'd have thought brakes on these cars would be a priority to work ALL the time without seizing, squeaking like a mouse or mooing like a cow (which mine was doing). I may as well have been driving a sup'ed up muck spreader last week. :)
  22. "Red Rubber" grease that's supposed to be the best now because it doesn't ruin the rubber parts on calipers (thought you'd like that Gambit) :) Check it out: http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/Product.do?method=view&n=2079&p=425233&c=215&utm_source=Google&utm_medium=Base&utm_campaign=Grease&gclid=CMmx3_Lg6cMCFSvLtAods2UAAg "Castrol Red Rubber Grease can be used on all conventional vehicle hydraulic brake systems utilising DOT 3, DOT 4, Super DOT 4, DOT 4 Plus and 5.1 type brake hydraulic fluids." Now I haven't used this yet on my brakes. Better still, I found a trick to free up ceased caliper pistons and pads. You wash the car in a lot of wash and wax soap, spraying it into the wheels etc. Wash off and leave the car standing all weekend with hand brake on. When you start the car, let off the hand brake, put in first gear and accelerate smartly - you'll feel a sudden "jolt" as the ceased brake pads on the discs detach on the rear. This jolt is enough to miraculously free up the back brakes and reset the piston and pads enough to stop them sticking and making noises. It's worked for now... will monitor some more.
  23. I have heard synthetic oils have more detergents in and therefore they tend to "clean" as well as lubricate. So, using thinner synthetic oil as a top up helps if the oil is looking darker than it should be. Using something like 0W/30 synthetic with 5W/30 dark oil will allow it to thin down and become more viscous to extend the service time a little, but that's not generally recommended unless needed.
  24. Ford = Fraud - not really "super" cars other than those built in the USA. Ford's always use more fuel than they say.
  25. Not sure if this helps, but you could try cleaning the DV to see if it stops it sticking. I've heard brake cleaner is best for this. Then when re-fitting use a new correct gasket as has been recommended by Stants along with the hoses. When you take off the old one though, make sure its the right one and is fitting correctly between the hole and DV because any overlaps from a wrong gasket will also cause problems.
