Air filter advice. Prepping for remap.
ven replied to Scoobyghost's topic in Subaru Engines, Exhausts and modifications
Any pics please, any advantages other than noise...........did you drill holes etc in sides for example. Do you get cooler air in,would presume heat soak from engine bay but would like to do this mod if works ;) Just pondering,i have a K&N panel, cobra zaust, will remove a cat, prob replace centre section but this wont make a difference to map once done. I am in similar process to scooby ghost(other than getting married and newage ) I know different as every thing requires re-map . So getting it ready to fit before map come time..........again i want similar results,no bhp chaser as to me its just a " i have XXXhp" stuff,i want a drivable motor, earlier boost(cat removal should be 500rpm earlier) .So 250-280 i would have thought reasonable ,the td04 is good for 280.........some 300 from, but thats at its limit and i dont want that. I want it safe/reliable in its parameters if makes sense, but a little more ooooomph :D Its a fraction over 1bar ,so if a bar=14.5 then its 15psi as is with filter n zaust. Only issue i have is noise, right now imo anyway its spot on,good burble, loud to have compliments, not intrusive........so i dont want any louder . Cheers ven :) -
Thanks gambit, yes i believe some advertised are exact bolt on,where as the sti requires more holes drilling. Does not bother me drilling holes..........after all it wont be as big as But given choice i would rather just bolt straight on....... For a good condition in 08v,i guess 250-300 ish i would be happy with if possible. No mad rush, can hold out.........but if i get one from a breakers i need to add around £190 for re-spray unless i get very very lucky and right colour 08v Cheers ven
-
Good point , it seems the easiest option overall and as you say worse case return item . The quote for £190 was correct so not cheap, had a reply later on confining .
-
Thats an excellent point, had slipped mind tbh as ones seen did mention req re-spray but wrong original colour anyway(no biggie). Yes ,i like pics, once done i will post before/after,what and why the decision i went that way, and how annoyed i am at the extra leverage the boss will have using it as a boot handle
-
Yes i love the high level spoiler, not keen on the wrx ironing board. Seen the extensions, these are now £150 and i will just have a ........................higher up ironing board I think copy n spray is ahead then for now, will see what quotes i get. Could spray myself but would have to hang in garage to spray and its full to the brim with studio stuff right now Just like to have a plan of action,if could get spray closer to £100 or less, would defo swing it more............cant believe how dear it is for a simple job for a spray shop. Also know not to bake as can damage the copy/material..........so a good day or 3 for that work, thats it drying though and not spraying. Cheers again all ;)

I am ok mec wise, time wise is my issue with young ones.......... I used to do jobs on the truck at night in the dark, torch in teeth after bed time ................yes that bad
-
tbh i am not bothered about selling on etc, when time comes and maybe buy an sti or whatever at time,i will sell as is so not too much of an issue. I am a little concerned of the CF look, would it look a bit halfords, would it still look in keeping as fast and furious stuff is certainly not for me. I like in keeping and discrete in general(yeh right from my last 4x4) but was done in keeping if makes sense. Discrete hooligans car would be a better description May i should keep an eye out for an oe one, breakers(i know have to be quick..........wait at the gate quick) or get a copy and spray. Cost wise seems similar to the CF version which does look good. Just dont want the CF to stand out too much against the mica black 08v paint ...........too much. Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp
-
Cheers for reply, would you consider a CS spoiler on Or go copy and spray? Cheers ven :)
-
Hi all,not an immediate purchase but will be done at some point for sure. I am after an STI high level spoiler ,in process of getting spray quotes, one come back at £190 local but admitted he might have over quoted me,but say even £150 + a good copy for around same is £300 Now i am getting it the the realms of decent carbon fibre spoilers Like http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Subaru-Impreza-WRX-STI-Version-7-8-9-Carbon-Rear-Boot-Spoiler-inc-Clear-LED-/271644455309?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3f3f45718d Now i am not a fan tbh of CF as ............well its not really me. But these look ok and i have a black bugeye 08v paint code. What would you do........hang out for a genuine..........maybe a long time Buy a good copy and get sprayed..............but looking at £300 ish Give up and leave my ironing board on What i want Cheers guys :)

Drove it as i always do in the week to work and back, around 9.5m each way of over 8m of motorway. Nice distance to get warm and condensation out of the zaust. Unfortunately a 50mph limit on the m60 does bring extra congestion which = extra frustration(how office workers or 9-5 workers do this day in,day out is beyond me). Looked at my double din JCV pondering what to get to replace it with that has gps and does not have xtrons in the name........ School run was done in an auto 1.4 clio just for a change its good not to change gear sometimes :P
-
I want an sti one, just finding one and after a quote of £190 for a re-spray.................ouch Would have to buy a copy i guess, not paying £400 for a spoiler(well yet anyway) Happy for a £200 bill for an 08v black sti spoiler, copy as long as not fibre glass. Dont think i could justify any more even though i want one real bad :(

Yes ,iirc jap have 101ron...........maybe higher now as i am going back a good few years. Our petrol is not the best, fuel in the USA is crap at best................but boy is it a lot cheaper :( Not as cheap as Saudi though..........................19p a litre of super!
-
This is from my bugeye wrx uk fuel cap,so always used super, now nitro 99ron over previous 97ron No mention of unleaded................95ron
-
I will be a guinea pig :D Go for it,learn it,for me yes a little mind field but we all know all of us(ok maybe not everyone) but you know what i mean are capable of doing anything they want. The most important ingredient is interest,if you have this ,then your on to a winner. Could do member maps etc, make a couple of £ too. I would like to get into it,if i was made redundant for example i would consider getting set up and learning the ropes........ I mean how B) driving a Subaru to others Subaru's and leaving owners with a huge :D I think with a little practice you would be as good as most home mappers(who are good),once a few years under your belt............well who knows, you may be the best!! The one to go to............ I do wish someone closer who knew maps etc could show me the ropes, would love to learn, which parts to alter on the map software. As long as do little adjustments at a time, record, test and so forth, should be good to go......................fast :)

Boost gauge/gauge pod help
ven replied to Mikey133's topic in Subaru Engines, Exhausts and modifications
True!!!! can see it now..................monthly rotation -
Yes all standard, previous 1 owner and all service by subaru, rang garage to confirm everything etc. I thought maybe PPP but had the standard zaust on so ruled out(of course could have swapped but would have been pointless for sake of £80 or so. Certainly seeing 14.5psi so 1 bar,it can be a needle width before or over at times. Pretty consistent in higher gears where i am on boost for longer periods(motorway). Just panel and zaust so far, both cats still in place, never misses a beat.
-
wonder if the filter and zaust then maybe why a tad over,if 1bar=14.5psi,i would say about 15.1 or .2 psi. But steady,no issue at all,in fact it does run very well, only comparison i have is from my MOT tester whos mate has an sti wagon and said mine drives tighter and boosts better..............his words not mine. I know the sti is more powerful though :-/ maybe its fubar Yes,true, gauges are never spot on,does calibrate every start up,does appear pretty consistent in readings through various testing, but could be consistently out

Boost gauge/gauge pod help
ven replied to Mikey133's topic in Subaru Engines, Exhausts and modifications
Cool, tbh i would have turned it to green anyway such a waste on me.............. :P It would be great(may be ok) if the other prosport gauges(have digital ones too) are compatible with same plug,i would buy another and just swap..............just because i could plug n play :) May ask actually ;) -
Mine is a wrx, standard other than k&n panel, rear cobra zaust running a very consistent tad over 1bar (according to gauge). At first i used 97ron super, then decided on shell nitro at 99 ron. Now i know its not going to make any huge differences as the standard map is mapped for a broad petrol,it does say super unleaded behind cap. I dont appear to be getting any more miles to the tank, but do have passionate driving stints Am i wasting my time going 3 mile(6 round trip) to brim my tank? I know sti require a minimum of 98ron "apparently" anyway....... Is it true it would possibly back off as Dino suggested as i have not heard this before and a newb to the scoob. As on the topic,i would not be too happy going over 280 in my wrx due to the td04 limiting it anyway. I like to run under the max i can get if makes sense,so 260/270 would be more than enough. I am concerned on reliability, the PPP of 240-260 dependent on car(as all vary anyway) i would class as a safe amount. That may be where i go as i am not chasing bhp anyway, more just a better drive. 500hp for me is as good as useless anyway............lag lag :o and ban Just a usable ,responsive drive........Cat replacement on either down pipe or after then centre section, map and should be done! Does anyone know the safe boost limit of a standard wrx, with mine a midges over 1 bar! Have read 0.8 and 0.9 bar is standard.......which is it? Is the fuel ok for up to 1.1................without mapping? I know the sti internals are stronger and support higher gains without further mods........but i dont have one :( Cheers ven :)
-
32psi all round, find it works well with the pilot sport boots, checked fluids as i do weekly anyway, coolant is always spot on,oil spot on,topped up washer bottle.................about 100ml Gear box spot on....... Checked boost gauge pipes are all ok as fresh from other week. Quick clean of dash inside Took a pic or 3 for you all...........this is how clean it is all the time, bit of ocd i guess (no not washed outside today) Weekly checks done MPG wise, worst from a tank is 24,usually around 27mpg using 99ron nitro.

Lovely subaru.............. B) all done tastefully ,how i like, colour is stunning too :) Rach did love hers to death!!! literally............ Nice v6,tip- tronic..........nice place to sit tbh. She still misses it now,but ins too high.............its over £800 for the clio Only pic i have was taken by my late father,my eldest lad(good few years back, maybe 12 ish) of the 200sx s14a,pre mobile phone cameras so a pic off an actual printed pic. As it was not meant to be a car pic,it only shows a bit ....... Loved that car, really nice to drive, had to go as young one on way and rear seats would not fit baby seats(bucket).Thats when the shogun was born.......
-
I love you car avatar B) I need a high lift spoiler and i have found hens teeth in my rocking horse *beep* whilst looking..............
-
B) I have found(bare in mind far more likely around near me to park up and another 4x4 be it a disco or another paj etc) very rarely a day would go buy without someone coming over and chatting or asking about mods. Admittedly after a few years it did get tiring of all the attention. Now i am like a ninja discrete and hidden away............well so i thought Only till another subaru is about that is :) I stay away from face ache............and will stay that way. Understand easy to keep in contact with family far away, but daily spats by keyboard warriors is not for me,not to mention i dont want everyone to know my ins and outs(nothing to hide, just more a private kind of guy if makes sense) .

Well there goes my thought "everybody loves me for who i am" Thats great, shame they do have a rep,tbh what mark does not, "BMW" drivers have been surpassed by AUDI now.........and we know BMW drivers were Mondeo owners of past Ok on a serious note(only for once) it kind of makes me proud to be a part of it. I know if i broke down at side of the road,if a subaru passed it would pull over. I have had a few talk "subaru" in past, but admit nothing compared to when i parked the 7ft 7 truck up...............that was a magnet...........unfortunately not for ladies dads and lads magnet, every kid loved it,pointed at it,if close by and window down,i heard many times "daddy look at that big jeep" Sport/sti/wrx/forester etc to me makes no difference,on here all are treated as should hence why i spend time on here looking through and posting when possible. I get fed up of the sti *beep* stuff tbh,wrx are *beep* etc. I do contemplate a wagon in truth, the advantage of the boot size over the saloon..............think 2 young ones and a caravan to go. After Rachels 2 crashes last year(5 series..........yes a bm ) and a run about focus(took a bend to quick) we have picked up a little..............dare i say french car(goes against my "jap or german" only but not mine.,She loves it,its a run about temporary, but 25k on clock, like new and auto 1.4. Its actually ok to drive too...........honest!!! For just £800 off a very good friend...........it is less than 1/2 they go for on ebay, just too good to not get. When i have used it and i pass a lot of clios, no one lets on...........thankfully :P Crashed bm(very good car tbh,2.5 straight 6 and bullet proof engine ,other than sensors) Then focus She hated that.........so much she crashed into a big curb...........joking aside, fractured sternum and ribs All in 2 months after a decade of issue free(she used to have an FTO) Now Lucky me i have 2 black cars to keep clean But other marks have no "bond" so to speak as i have noticed, maybe evo owners do but dont know on that(would have thought so) With the rep that comes with impreza ownership,i will add i have not seen any driven like a *beep*.............yet Proud to be a part, just wish i knew who it is pipping and letting on,some older shape, some newage, shape seems to make no difference so far B) Subaru has a strong, passionate following i have found so early on B) Cheers ven ps-thanks for putting up with my waffle

Boost gauge/gauge pod help
ven replied to Mikey133's topic in Subaru Engines, Exhausts and modifications
Sounds awesome tbh, love the option of changing colours via gauge rather than wiring.................. Looks stunning and oe fitted............well better tbh as it would not be as good if factory oe B) Love it!!
