  2. Have you tried Scoobynet? They have a large for sale section on that board. My local Subaru breakers have plenty of cars in at the moment. Call Pete at South East Imprezas 07891129485 he may be able to help.

  6. Brakes is deff 1 area I won't go "Cheap" on. I'll always go for EBC stuff, to me thats cheap compared to AP and Brembo :)
  7. Sounds like you did the right thing and walked away. There doesn't seem to be many later ones about at the moment. There's a few on autotrader. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/search/used/cars/subaru/impreza/postcode/tw75as/radius/1500/onesearchad/used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew/sort/pricedesc/body-type/hatchback/page/2 I'm sure you'll find your car soon :)

  11. Hm @ 21 my cars would have been a Fiat Super Strada 85 then a Ford Orion 1.6L So badly wanted an XR2i or Escort RS2000 at the time.
  12. I did a 114 mile round trip Motorway and Dual carridgeways and got 28.9mpg on that one. :)
  13. Welcome, Nice car :)
  14. I guess it will depend on if they took it to a main dealer for servicing. Tbh I'm not that knowledgable about it, I bought mine without any thought about it just did the regular checks when buying a car. Luckily I know the dealer that did all the servicing and rang them up to confirm. Also like Jay will get it on the rolling road and remapped just to be sure.
  15. The engine is know to suffer from ringland failure. This was posted on my local forum by an owner and very knowledgeable guy. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subaru added the ECU re-flash/amended map to the 'service update' rather than doing a formal recall. The issue only occurred on some cars in some situations i.e. when you hit or got near the rev limiter, so a full recall was not considered necessary Some updated cars (both standard UK STI & 330S) still suffered from ringland failure after the factory re-map, so a bespoke map from someone decent (like JGM) is still a must on the pre 2010 cars if you like to give it some and want peace of mind My 08 hatch STI is making 370bhp and had been absolutely fine for 2 years/30K miles of spirited driving following JGM's fine work --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I own a Type Uk which has been PPP'd (Prodrive Performance Pack) which takes the car upto 330bhp. I believe this is the same mapping as the 330s. The main difference between a 330s and Type UK is that the 330s has Recaro seats, a starter button, Sat Nav and is badged 330s. These badge cars are all Factory cars. The type UK is the same car just without the extra options fitted. The PPP is a dealer fitt option which is just a remap of the ECU. So not all Type UK will be 330bhp When you do buy a car, take it to your local Subaru specialist and ask them to check the mapping on the car and if nessecary tweak it.
  16. Owen depending on distance it might be worth coming along to the surrey Scoobies meet. They meet up at the Fairmile in Cobham, near Sandownrace course every 2nd Sunday of the month. http://www.surreyscoobies.co.uk/forums/index.php
  17. I once used a doorbell button for my horn on a beetle :) never got it MOT'd with it though.
  18. Heres the Quad Bike. http://youtu.be/Qe_mS_ucYCM
  19. Someone signed up to Sureey Scoobies and is making this: A WRX Powered Mk1 Escort. Seen it done with quite a few beetles and an Quad bike but never a MK1 though :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRhVyPR2Szw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJ6ITFh9aYc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bsYyyejS6UI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uudvC6wIImQ
  20. LOL I wasn't implying you we're meaning 2nd hand bits :)
  21. I've always got my pads and discs from ECBdirect.com. They are the cheapest I've ever found for EBC. I've used EBC red Stuff and Yellow stuff pads with tarot grooved vented discs, after that I switched to EBC turbo Grooved Discs With Yelow Stuff pads. All worked well, but you do get more brake dust with the fast road pads. One other thing that may be worth considering is braided hoses, they don't bulge under pressure and are a lot more durable than rubber if you are going to be driving the car exuberantly. This is an obvious one but buy brand new pads and discs DO NOT buy 2nd hand ones. Sorry if teaching granny to suck eggs but its a deffo don't try this at home thing.
  22. Dan at Surrey Subaru will do day to day stuff aswell as build you a 500bhp monster. I have had work done by Dan myself he did a cam belt change on my driveway including replacing the tensioners. he's also highly recommended by the members of Surrey Scoobies.
  23. As far as I know Swapping the ECU will not derestrict it, as It an mechanical limiter tied into to the Speedo. Even if you did swap the ECU you would still be getting KPH through the Speedo and this would mess with the ECU as the UK ECU are probably programmed to MPH not KPH. I would call a Subaru Specalist and Chat to them. Pete at South East Imprezas would be a good bet for the bit and advice you need.
