Gambit
Prodrive though they still hold the value. I've seen really nice UK300 at near £8k sort of regret modding mine now but too late now :D But thats another thing make sure you check it is a genuine Prodrive. I've seen so many just stick a spoiler on or even a sticker on the front bumper and claim it to be a full Prodrive
Dempsey
All things I've considered too. It is a genuine prodrive sti, genuine 1 owner car with history but does have a few war wounds but not in anyway a shed at all. For the money though I would have expected him to be a little more courtious and on time for the viewing. I agree that there aren't loads if people that would pay this sort of money for a 12 y/o performance car that everyone knows will have been thrashed at some point if not for most of it's life. I know people will spend more than I can afford too and I would love to be able to but for what I'm looking to spend most people are then looking at Vw, Audi, ford and so on as it's not to everyone's tastes is it. Still looking all the time but none are really what I'm after at present. Only got 18 days until they cancel my insurance policy too before I lose my ncb so trying to see what I can find asap without making a rash choice :(
JusNoGood
Still unsure on what to do at present. I really like the bugeye I went to see although unsure on the little noise it had but the main reason I'm unsure is because of the guy selling it. He just has no customer service skills whatsoever. It's like me possibly wanting to spend £6k with him is an issue. Bit of a mind war going on at the mo. If you really like the car, it seems good for the money and it's got a nice documented history (???) then I'd go for it...but I'd do it thinking I'm buying privately and assuming I'd get no after sales support at all. There are companies like that out there...I'm always reading about Cheshire cars. You could pay someone to check it over for you? Scooby specialist would be good but if not AA? JusNoGood
I don't think you lose your NCD over night mate....I left the country for two years and still used mine when I came back ;)

Saying that are there any reputable specialists in the Bedford area that anyone can suggest to get to possibly give it the once over then? I'm still learning who's who in the subaru world so unsure if anyone would be local that is trustworthy. insurance wise they stated if I don't transfer onto another vehicle before the 28 day period expires they would cancel the policy and is lose the ncb as not transferable to my other car insured with them due to its low value. May mean that I'd lose this years bonus though rather than the complete amount thinking about it?
JusNoGood
The only guy I use is Dan at Surrey Subaru Specialists. He's in Camberley which looks about 1.5hr drive from Bedford. You could always give him a call and see what he says. http://www.surreysubaruspecialists.com/contact-us/ He's a great guy and expert at his job. I do a 100 mile round trip to get my car serviced by him. insurance. Not sure I understand, So you don't have a full year NCD yet so they won't give you proof of anything? If you have a year they should give you proof of it which you can give you your next company.
bowthruster
Just out of interest who are you insured with?Ive never heard of this situation before...I think there trying it on.Legally if you've had insurance for a year you are entitled to 1yrs NCB,whether you car is worth £50 or £50000.I think the rule is (as of now),if you don't insure another vehicle within 2 yrs then I think you lose your NCB...But not 100% sure for definite....Just had a google about this and most insurers its 2yrs some budget insurers 12months. Dempsey
Thanks for the link, I will try to get in touch with him and see what he says as you suggest. Yeah I have 11yrs ncb, my company (sky insurance) only give upto 9 yrs on the policy but as the policy hasn't yet run it's full term this year she said it won't go down on my ncb history so would lose the equivalent even though they don't recognise higher than 9yrs. My last insurance co used the full amount of discount but it's each to their own on the insurance co front and how they run/discount I suppose. I thought the 28 days was a little short but I think it's just this years bonus I will lose after looking into it further.
bowthruster
Yes you wont have completed this full year so yes you will lose this years ncb but not all of your ncb.

You are perfectly right on that...I moved with my company to India for 20 months...I came back and gave them my previous 20 month old NCD letter and carried on with it. The other to go for is an AA check...not as good as a Scoobie specialist but should give you piece of mind...especially if you don't have money to sort anything major :) Let us know how you get on :D
Dempsey
Yes you wont have completed this full year so yes you will lose this years ncb but not all of your ncb. Yeah I realised this once I went back over it. It was the way the lovely lady said it all made it sound different and worried me a touch. Still only 28 days before they right the policy off so now have just under a fortnight left I believe. See what happens with these cars, really fighting the urge to just buy one as have wanted one for years so temptation is very high. Most nice ones are miles away though which is annoying. The only other one I can find at present that I like the look of is all the way over in Wales. Another 4hr drive if I want to go to view that one :( Makes it more frustrating I missed out on an awesome one just 30mins down the road last week as contacted the dealer a little too late. JusNoGood
Yea when I was looking for mine I resigned myself to booking a cheap hotel and doing Wales and Birmingham area one weekend. I found one 75 miles away in the end. Worth bearing in mind it's a slow time of year....thing could pick up mid Jan [emoji3]
JusNoGood
Dempsey, So are you referring to Hurst when you are talking about the bug guy not interested in selling? Quite surprising to hear that if it is. From what I've heard about them they are usually really good. Perhaps you caught him in a funny mood or you gave the impression you were "yet another tire kicker"...not implying anything mate just trying to reason it away
Dempsey
Well I'm not saying he's a bad bloke at all but I did find the service a little less than helpful. Kept us waiting an hour and a half when we had an appointment for 12.30, at least he did turn up but we were left for an hour with ok contact at all. Then all was going well but he spent lots of time on his phone when with us and when we were going to look at the second car which we had said about told us to be quick as he had other things to do. I was an am interested in the car as I asked if we were in a position to do a deal that day if we went for it which he wasn't keen on doing. It's nothing major and I get it's only £6k compared to some of the cars being around the £7,8,9 and upwards but to me it's a lot of money and would've felt happier with a little more customer care. I was only asking to see if it was him having an "off day" or I he is usually like that. Again nothing against him, seemed a nice guy but just trying to get others insight really :)
JusNoGood
It shouldn't matter if its a £1k car or £15k you should still be given respect and service. I hate it when you've spent time going to a shop (and your case even booked a appointment) and then whoever phones up from their sofa gets the attention of the attendant, wheres that rant thread again As I said in the other thread. I've not had a huge amount of contact with him. He did answer my calls promptly and answer all my questions in a friendly manner - perhaps when you were there in person I'm not sure how Hurst are post sales. I think I'd ask who has had a problem post sales and how was it dealt with.

Dempsey
That's how I feel really, still think hopefully going again this weekend and if all goes well may well come home with it. It is nice, bit rough round the edges but nothing horrendous and after all it is a 12y/o car so unless it's a proper pride and joy thing (will be mine) or a garage trailer queen it'll have some marks. I believe its still valid for 2 years of your last insurance end date. Ps. 28 days its a suspension of your policy you still pay but also accumulate ncd. It gives you 28 days to find another car. Dempsey
Well had another conversation with Hurst this morning and a totally different experience than last weekend. Maybe he was having an off day? Either way, he is sorting out the issues on the car for me, the little knock and Battery replacement and boot catch opening and he is fully prepping the car for hopeful collection Monday afternoon/evening. Also got a nice amount off the car. However did discuss that if the issues weren't sorted if either be looking for more off or walk away and all sounded good from both ends. So as of Monday I am hopefully going to be the proud owner of a 52 plate STI prodrive bugeye! :D
