  • For a daily runner i absolutely love my 2.0. I can sqeeze 34/35mpg and about 400miles per tank of vpower. (More on longer trips) Insurance isnt too bad either. Wouldnt sell it even if i was load

  • My little old 1800cc punto is quicker than a n/a impreza. I couldn't deal with the embarrassment. Food for thought [emoji5]

I can't understand how the bands go from £285 to £485 then £500 surely the £485 band should be somewhere more in the middle of the other 2 prices.

£5k is getting into sti range bud. With 86k miles I paid £5.5k for my sti and thats from a dealer that deals with performance cars.

I have used gum tree and auto trader and that one i seen for £6.5k is the only decent one i have seen i want one under 80k on the clock at least.

The wrx is it mate

Ive owned a few turbo'd scoobys and 1 na scooby. If youve ever driven a turbo scooby a na one does feel very slow. I had a na bugeye sti rep with every sort of extra. Coilovers, antilift kit, sti brakes and i loved how the car looked but for me, just wasnt in the same level as the turbo version. The black one does look very nice though I have to admit. As others have said, servicing is no more to do on na as turbo. It can be difficult to find a decent scooby though. Had a few dogs before i found a really good one. As the buying guide states. Go with your head.

In a straight line very well possible due to its power/weight ratio.

my mate had a NA impreza couldnt keep up with my vectra in a strait line or round bends

Its not an sti bud. This one is wrx and some nob put sti badge on it. Note its 2.5 meaning roadtax of around £400 A year.

Not all 2.5's are the higher tax. If you can find a 55 plate or 06 hawkeye they are £285 it's to do with emissions so if they still sold a 2.0 turbo in the UK in 2007 it would still be £400 plus to tax

If it's registered before 23rd March 2006 it'll be £285after and its err £450 or something like that

Yea just read up on it to make sure a wrx would be either £285 or £485 depending on whether it was registered before or after that date but an sti 2.5 hawkeye is a filthy polluting car :) so it's £500 no matter what

Oh wait I misread it the same rule applies to sti's I thought all cars over 255 CO2's were £500 but that's not how it worked

Nah...they made new tax bands active from that date...and a way to incentivise the industry/public...they weren't evil enough to sting people with dirty cars already [emoji2]

Just the govt being complete fools considering the most polluting vehicles on our roads are busses takes the ****. Just another way to do over the motorist. Trouble is all your sports high end sports cars don't get driven that much so in real world terms they don't pollute that much

Very nice...not driven a Legacy. How do they drive compared to an Impreza?

lol no idea, never driven an Impreza before haha

Slicks to the road, can't stop yourself grinning like a loony when it hits 3.5k RPM, noisy (road/wind noise) and quite a hard ride compared to Your usual family car [emoji16]

Most fun car I've driven

Thanks for the advice guys, so i looks like i need one regestered over 2005 to avoid the tax bracket and idealy a 2.0 turbo

I want a hawk shape, but they are all over 50k, is 117k reliable ?

how many miles can you put on these things ? I have never bought a car with a mileage over 55k

I always sell my cars when they get to 70k

that one looks great but 117 is a lot to me

For me it has to be an Imprezza Hawkeye WRX 2005 and above 2.0 ltr now to avoid tax

Seen this :

But i can say to the insurance that that is standard and has no mods ? or can i ?

That ones caught my eye but the millage is a little bit high - 87k

Too many mods to run past insurance as unmodified

I'm looking at buying my first Subaru too, so very interested in this thread.

I definitely want a turbo version but should I go for the 2L turbo or 2.5L turbo?

Personal choice mate. I went for a 2.0 just because the 2.5 engines do suffer from failures....and I didn't want to pay the £500 tax a year...just couldn't convince myself to give the tax man more money.
